They have ALWAYS been considered a Game Animal in AL.
While the Season is never closed, there are Regulations that have to be abided by in regards to 'how' and 'with what' to hunt them.

i allways thought they were referred to as a nuisance and you could kill them with whatever means necessary.

They are a nusiance, and you should be able to kill them with impunity and extreme prejudice by whatever means necessary, but the DCNR has labeled them a "game animal" and put some regulations on them.

Which is silly.

They actually have a dual listing. They are a game animal while they are alive. Once you have killed them they are no longer considered a game animal.

I agree with you Clem on the "Extreme Prejudice" approach.

Actually, once you catch them (don't have to be dead) they are reduced from Game Animal status to your possession.

I suppose that is to allow people who hunt/trap to sell them???

I know of no restriction on the 30 rd mag during the day.

The way I understand the rules, you can hunt them with any weapon during the day. If you want to hunt with bait or at night, you have to get a depredation permit. And this if private or leased properties only. WMAs and such have their own rules.

The state has formed a "commission" to study how to limit their expanding population but they still regulate how you can kill them. Don't you just love how stupid government can be!

For example: You can set a trap with corn in it and trap the hog and shoot it. You can't put out a pile of corn and shoot the hog coming to it without the trap in the picture, unless you get a permit.

So, once they are trapped, they are your possession and not considered game animals? If so, could a person take them out of the traps and transport them to their private farm and feed out like a reg hog to process?

Yes, as soon as they are in your possession they are reduced to livestock but I don't think any of these rules are new are they?

You are not allowed to move them alive off of the property you catch them on.

That is the way it has always been.
It wasn't always heavily enforced.....but, has been in place forever.

It was made illigal to move a live hog, because people were trapping them and releasing them onto other properties.
