Most people really don't know how to break gloves in. The old fold it like an airplane and throw it between a bed isn't really the best way to go. Their idea of a broke in glove is a lose floppy glove which is not what you want. With him being 8 just moving it around in your hand should soften it up enough for him to be able to squeeze it. But him not being able to squeeze it well will make him have to use both hands which is what you want.
As far as good gloves the upper end Wilson, Mizuno, and Rawlings are probably the best out but they're high. I never liked Nokona they were big and heavy. They may have changed things in the last few years but I didn't like them at all when I played. Most everyone I played with in college used the good wilson and Rawlings. They're good quality and will last. They may be worth it when he gets a litt older but not necessary right now. They won't make you a better player but they're not priced like they are for nothing, they're made and designed well and many of them feel real well on your hand so they do help.

I buy everything I can at Play it Again Sports, even when it costs me a few dollars more. Between my boy's glove and bat, I bought everything at about 15-20% of retail price.

No, Trox28 if you go back and read exactly what mine and everyone else's posts said, most are saying similar things. I believe you're the only one who said to fold it and put it under a bed, which is the only "method" I actually called out. And its not really the method thats the problem but what it does to the glove. The rest were just more along the lines of characteristics that you don't want in a glove. If thats the way you want to do it by all means its your glove go right ahead. I personally don't think thats the best way to do it and thats why I posted what I did. I didn't say most of the posters here were wrong because most were mentioning similar things of what I said.
Post 2- Said pretty much exactly what I said. Some oil and bend it with your hand.
Post 3- oil and catch which I also recomended.
post 4- floppy is no good exactly what I said
post 5- Not much oil and a little other stuff which I said nothing about
post 6,7- Beating with a hammer I spoke nothing about.
post 8- Right on line with what I said
I could continue down the list but I hope you can see that I didn't say that everyone else was wrong.

I actually counted quite a few that said put a ball in it and cinch or tie it up...Thats no different than what I said other than putting it under the bed.Im not arguing with you I was just asking a question.Only one person said catch catch catch like you say and I agree that is the best way just not the fastest.It takes a while to break in a stiff glove just by playing catch.Oh and I don't see anywhere where you mentioned oil....carry on

I'm not going to argue either especially about the way to break in a glove. I actually didn't say catching was the main way but catching along with working it with your hand which is where the little oil comes into play. Somehow the oil part did get left out. I type on a lap top and sometimes hit the pad and it messes me up and I've typed stuff all in the wrong place and by the time I delete stuff where I didn't mean to put it I forget to put it back in but I thought I had put something about putting a little oil but its not in my post so something happened. The reason that I mentioned folding under a bed is because it can put a crease. The other methods don't crease one as bad as leaving it between something for an extended period. You see a lot of gloves like like that especially youth gloves. Some how this actually happened to one of the gloves I used in high school. I don't know if I did it or my dad did but it ruined it. It messed up the pocket so when I had the glove in a normal fielding position it had the glove in an angle where balls were more out to hit me in the palm than the pocket. Or maybe the problem was I just wasn't a good fielder

Or maybe the problem was I just wasn't a good fielder You just sucked as a fielder....Shoulda stuck with the tuba and the band  Im kidding.The way I done my daughters put a perfect pocket right where its suppose to be.Worked good for me so I was just passing along my method.
