Hear 2 wayyyy off at daylight. Couldn't hunt them so I just made a 1/4 mile loop just stopping an calling. Finally around 0845 I struck a turkey right where I started at daylight. I made my way about half way to him and made a few soft calls to check him and he dang near blew my hat off! I slipped up on a little ridge about 10 yards in front of me and didn't even get my gun on my knee and he gobbled. When he did I saw his head come out from behind a tree. The rest is history! He worked his way up the ridge and I killed him at around 40 yards. My second double bearded turkey, and my best as far as beards. He was just a fun 2 yr old with an 11.25 and a 9.5 inch beard. Dang fun hunt!

When you say "I struck him", what call did you strike him with? I'm guessing a crow call because of the 0845 time or was it a hen call. Did you use a call right at daylight when you heard those two way off, or did they gobble just to gobble? I'm really green at this turkey hunting, and to date I've never taken one. So any pointers you want to share that will tip the odds in my favor are greatly appreciated.

Turkeys at daylight gobbled on their own. I used a tube call to kill him, but anything would have worked I believe. It just takes finding one that wants to play, and this time of year, they're getting more numerous!
