Just remember those scrapes
might not have anything to do with the rut. The process of antlergenesis (growth of a new set of antlers) starts with a buck's body producing a temporary surge in testosterone production. That temporary surge of testesterone will cause the buck to suddenly act "rutty" again, including working scrapes.
I can tell when new antlers are about to start growing in my area by the sudden surge in late winter scraping, which in my area is going on now and will last into mid-April.
