in North Shelby Co. Just throwing out the info. Checked cams at lunch and had a 2.5 yr old 8 point who was there two nights ago with both, last night with one... Made a zig zag up the ridge looking around for a possible lucky find of some bone, but as a buddy of mine said when I told him that - "that lightning bolt will probably never strike again" It was worth a shot.

Anyways, just relaying the info.

Must be nice. We've had camera's out for the last three weeks and NOT ONLY have ours still got horns, we got pictures of chasing and bucks fighting. Rut is just happening in Conecuh county where our lease is.

X2

I checked today. I had two different fights on camera and from the best I could tell one chase. I usually see some chasing during the first part of turkey season. I see deer at the end of turkey season that still have their antlers. I was always confused by people who said they look for sheds while turkey hunting. My reply was that if you found a shed, it was from last year.

If a deer herd is healthy, most of the bucks will hold their antlers until just before the new set start to grow. That doesn't mean a few bucks won't drop early--especially the most heavily involved in rutting activity--but most will hold their antlers until just before antlergenesis begins.

Found a small shed this AM. Had pics of a few that had cast 1 antler, had a couple that had cast both.

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

Fresh sheds have been found on Bankhead since the second week of January. Some are still holding on.

Wow. My East Walker land isn't TOO terribly far from the SE line of bankhead...crazy they were dropping that early.

Ran my cameras Sunday afternoon, and all bucks pictured had both sides still intact. Talladega county.

I made this pic turkey hunting in the rain on Friday. Looked like a 2.5 that had shed his right antler and still had the left. Can't tell much from the pic, but he had 4 pts on the remaining antler, and was a pretty decent 2.5 for our area.

The majority of the 2 1/2+ bucks are still carrying in my area. A few have shed, but I would say 75% are still carrying. Yearlings have primarily shed.
