Coach Mal Moore in serious condition in a Birmingham hospital. He is suffering from pulmonary problems.

Saw that earlier today too.

Coach Moore is currently being transported to the Duke University Medical Center. Pulmonary specialist and potential lung transplant there.

who replaces Moore? Definately not an outsider.

If Coach Moore is forced to retire, two or three names have been kicked around. The favorite might be Ozzie Newsome, but I don't know if he would leave his position with Cleveland right now.

Ozzie would be a great hire by UA. That said, I agree with timbercruiser that I'm not sure he would come.

I would like to see Coach Saban move into this position one day. Not in the foreseeable future but one day.

Saban would make a terrible AD.

If he was AD director and went to work drunk and slept all day he would still be better than Jay Jacobs.

Yeah, I would never place him in any kind of leadership role. Just doesn't seem to have it in him.

If Saban worked under an AD such as himself he would be looking for another job. He is not much different than any other successful coach in that regard.

Alabama had a coach a few years back who did a tolerable job as AD.

Saban would be horrible as an AD. He doesn't have the personality or temperament to go begging for money and working the chicken dinner circuit. If you could break it up into separate jobs such as glad-handing beggar and evil overlord. Saban would probably do OK as the Athletic Evil Overlord.

And you're basing this on what? Certainly not the fact that he has raised millions of dollars for his and other charities. People act like all he does is yell at players on the practice field all day. I'm pretty sure he does plenty of glad-handing as it is.

What I don't think he has is any desire to be an AD. If he did, he would make a great one IMO.

Sure he gets money for his charity but that is probably a very small amount of time that he invest in that endeavor. You just have to look at how he revamped that Athletic Department when he got there. No more of that good ol boy hangin around crap. He's strictly business. Saban does the absolute bare minimum required in the glad handing department. I look at how he runs his program and I don't think he would be a good AD. There are a lot of good coaches that wouldn't be good AD's. I don't consider it a knock against him for that. Especially in the modern age of College Athletics. You've got to be more of a Business CEO than a Coach. Right now Saban has an Iron Fist Micro-Managed way of running things. That is great for a solitary program. I don't think he's the monster that everyone makes him out to be either but I just don't see that transitioning into running an Athletic Department.
Not to mention you go from making $5 Million to making $500K. Nothing like a 90% pay cut to make it appealing.

Back when Bryant, Broyles and Dooley were Head Coach and AD that AD title was mostly window dressing. I think Broyles was a pretty decent AD since he retired and stayed on as AD at Arky for about 30 years afterwards. Dooley was another that was a good AD after the Coaching career was done. The Associate AD's back then were most likely the true AD's. All those AD/Coaches were probably given the title for an extra kick in the compensation and not having a living legend report to a mere mortal AD.
That's just my opinion though.

Are you kidding me? I appreciate his charity...but his wife does most of that work. Also, all he had to do is tell the bammers that he had a charity and the donations flowed in. I hear it is how they funnel money to recruits....
