Hey guys. I'm a pretty active hunter.. I like shooting dove, deer, and turkey.
I just bought myself a new shotgun and my friend and I are wanting to get into waterfowl.
His land has a creek running through it, but I want to get into some marshlands and do the damn thing.
I know there are several routes to take for public land, but can anyone recommend me to a specific place? I'm located near Montgomery.
And I just realized there is a duck section..

Be ready to spend a bunch of money. No telling him many thousands of dollars is spent per year by us duck hunters.

Waders, decoys, calls, etc. You also might find someone else who already duck hunts and ask them to take you with them next season. Unless you're hunting just wood ducks or green heads, you need to know exactly what duck you're shooting and what the limit for that species is, as well as how to put out decoys, etc. By the time ducks get down here, they've been shot at from Canada and every state north of us. The survivors are pretty smart at spotting poorly made blinds and decoy spreads.

You live in one of the crappiest areas I know of to want to get into duck hunting. I waste time chasing them around here every year to get a break from deer hunting, but if you want to really get into duck hunting I would head west.

I waste time chasing them around here every year to get a break from deer hunting, but if you want to really get into duck hunting I would head west. I am afraid I would to agree. If you just want to kill wood ducks you should be able to find a spot. That's all I have in Lowndes County and it sure is fun but I wish we had more ducks. Head West or even to Lake Guntersville if you want to kill some divers.

I would say it's one of the better spots. Like anything, you just have to have a good place to go. Lots of ducks in/around Selma and Lowndes County. So yes, head west, but you're in a good spot.

Rem270, I am guessing you have never hunted MS or AR or anywhere in a flyway for that matter.
You can kill woodies consistently and throw in the occasional big ducks, but they are few and far between around Montgomery. When I said head west I was referring to the MS Delta not Lowndes county. Moose is right to though, the Big G is probably your best bet for AL.
