I was looking at the 770 in .30-06 about two months ago and opted to spend the extra $100 for a Savage 110 instead. From what I understand, the barrel is pressed together on the 770 and is not replaceable. The other thing I didn't like to much was the appearance of the plastic they used on the stock and the sling studs being molded into the plastic. Despite those two things, I hear it's a pretty accurate gun out of the box. A friend at work has one in 7mm along with his brother and father and they all seem to be pleased with them.

I bought one in .270 when I started hunting again a few years ago. Standard stock bushnell scope, shot ok, barrel is pressed in, clip was kinda crappy and the bolt was very rough. Polish the bolt up and it can be a lot smoother but still nothing impressive. It's an entry level gun in every possible way. My buddy still hunts with the earlier model (710 I think). If you are looking to kill a deer within 200 yards it will go bang like any others but you won't look near as good doing it.

I've got the 270 like josh had but mine was given to me. I wasn't going to shoot it but I had to in a pinch because my pos Simmons scope on my 30-06 messed up on me before my pig hunt with elkhunter so I took the scope off and tightened the crap out of the mounts and rings and took it to the range and surprisingly it shot sub moa at 100 yds but like josh said it is essentially a single shot because the bolt is like shoving a square peg in a round hole and in a pinch when you need a second shot you will have to jiggle the bolt while cussing at it to get another round in the chamber. It is also a little heavy for stalking and you have to try about 3 times to get the magazine in the gun. I wasn't impressed with the plastic trigger guard either. I did manage to kill 2 pigs with it though.
Yeah cmon. Daniel White

Save your money and get a Tikka T-3 Lite. You won't regret it.

Im not dead set on remington. The 770 just looks cheaply made to me, thats why i asked. I can pick this gun up for 300$. Seems like a descent deal. How much the tikka t-3 lite run? Btw the 770 is for sale through a friend of mine, he says its to fast for his liking
Looking to take some longer shots. All i have rite now is a 30/30, i wont shoot at a deer with it over around 120 yrds

Don't know much about the 770, but the 7mm-08 is a deer killer!
Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.
My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.

I have a 770 in 30-06. The bolt sticks and the magazine is finicky. You are going to want to replace scope and rings. That being said it is a pretty accurate rifle, but spend the extra hundred and get a 700.
Enjoy your freedom, while it lasts.

I bought my wife a rem770 243 about 5 years ago.Its a damn accurate gun but like others said its a entry level gun and the bolt is aggrevating as hell.I have oiled and polished and oiled and oiled and oiled it but its still really aggrevating. For the money I like it though. It only gets shot a few times a year if that so I wasn't gonna break the bank on a tikka or sako for it to only get used a few times a year.

Ironically, the rifle I bought to replace the 770 was a T3 Lite 270.

I bought a 770 a few years ago...worst rifle i've ever owned. I sold it after the first range day with it. It was so 'cheap' feeling and after a few rounds the bolt would lock up solid until it cooled down enough...junk. buy a 700 or equivilant. remember, you get what you pay for!
