Hmmmm... maybe an apology to the victim? Oh, I'm sorry... what's the victim have to do with this? I guess an apology to the victim would be an admission of guilt and we don't want this young man to stand tall and admit anything, right?!? I am sorry for my consideration of the victim!
Pettway's attorney Jay Stuck released the following (pitiful) statement:
"While certainly disappointed in the University's decision announced earlier today, DJ wishes to convey his sincerest gratitude to everyone who has provided him assistance, guidance, and well wishes throughout this process. He wishes to express particular gratitude to his family and friends that have and continue to provide unwavering support.
"Although his journey at Alabama is over for now, DJ is excited about the opportunities that may present themselves as he moves forward with his studies and personal growth.
"DJ would like to convey to his teammates his sincerest disappointment in not being able to join them on the field as they prepare for the upcoming season. He also wants both his teammates and his coaches to know that he considers them all extended family members and that due to their friendship and support his time at Alabama has been the best of his life. He truly regrets any pain, distractions, or other problems that this incident has caused any of them.
"DJ is committed to putting this incident behind him and to proving to all of those fans, coaches, and teammates that were disappointed by this incident that it is not a reflection of the man he is. He has already learned a great deal from these issues and is eager to begin the long road of proving to his family, friends, coaches, teammates, and the fans of the University of Alabama that he is worthy of the trust and faith they placed in him.
"Due to the ongoing nature of the proceedings surrounding this incident, neither DJ nor his family will be commenting publicly. DJ hopes the media will respect this decision that was made on the advice of counsel. As this matter proceeds, DJ eagerly awaits his opportunity to present his side of the story."
Pettway, 20, is charged with two counts of second-degree robbery. He has requested to be tried as a youthful offender and his preliminary hearing is set for March 19.
A Pensacola, Fla., native, Pettway redshirted the 2011 season before playing a prominent role as a pass-rushing defensive end in 2012. He had four tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks this past season.

He should watch, The Longest Yard. Probably where he will play football next. I don't know...Williams has already gotten some interest from Miami and Florida, according to the local sports radio show. We'll probably hear Pettway's name mentioned somewhere gain soon.

I don't see that statement as pitiful. I think that he will end up with probation, most likely not as a youthful offender and will end up playing football somewhere else. There are actually people that commit crimes and learn from their mistakes and become model citizens afterward.
Any apology to the victim will come at the time he pleads guilty. I would never let me client apologize to someone before the case was resolved and neither would any other attorney.

The only thing he'd probably learn from that scenario is robbery isn't that big of a deal.

Youthful offender is for anyone who is under 21 at the time of the crime. It seals the record.

doekiller, oh I know his attorney would not want his client to admit any wrongdoing before the trail. I realize that aspect and position.
And, I do know that the difference between "right and wrong" is lost from the very beginning when attorneys get involved.
He's welcome to continue his life after he's paid his due punishment but it would be my and many other people's opinion, that he continue his life somewhere else other than The U of A or AU as I wouldn't want him at AU.
I'm an AU grad and I hope the four ex AU players pay their price of justice too and leave Auburn.

Bammers are still arrogant assholes (even though most of them have ever been within 20 miles of the campus). Barners are still whiny assholes (all auburn fans went to auburn). Jawja is still known for it's "almost" teams...Braves, Falcons, Bulldogs...they make you think they are going to actually win something but they snatch defeat from the jaws of victory at the last moment. Bama has won the last 2 BCSNC games. They shouldn't have been there either time because they had losses. Auburn fired their coach less than 2 years after a BCSNC. Hope this helps. Missed you the last 2 years.
