Years ago at the newspaper I was asked by our then-publisher whether having a "big buck" contest would be a good idea.
I said of course due to the exposure and great interest, provided that we absolutely require polygraph examinations of the top three or five or however many places we provide money or prizes for, and also be braced for jealousy, egos, accusations and assorted comments that come from hunters.
My main contention was requiring the polygraphs, though, with certified examiners.
We didn't have a contest. Never was discussed again, either.

Polygragh should be required in any contest (of significant rewards) where the results are based on non witnessed events such as a buck contest or fishing tournament. I've personally had to take a polygragh after a win on a fishing tournament. Pretty routine possibility in most trails of any size, and I wouldn't fish a trail of any size that didn't have the possibility of a polygragh as a requirement. As far as how this deer was killed, not a clue but it could be cleared up pretty quick with a polygragh. If my name was being slandered, I would do it to clear it and then take appropriate actions...

When you look at something like that, it is not about the guy that was lucky enough to kill it or whether it was taken illegally, even though I hope it wasn't. But it is about honoring the deer that was capable of growing such a beautiful rack. My Dad is a taxidermist in south Georgia and I can assure you that if someone wanted their mount back in a couple of weeks or so, he could do that for them. Money talks when it comes to expiditing mounts. He has one client that always pays an extra $200 to get his back ASAP. It is a service and you pay for it. Heck, I have one with him for over a year now, so I guess being his son has no clout, especially when I am a non-paying customer.

I have never made any accusations about this man, his buck or how it was killed, in this thread or the other thread about this deer.
I even congratulated him in the other thread.
I do hope it was killed legally and will give honor where honor is due. I wasn't there when it was killed, I don't know the guy and all I know about the kill is what I have read here but...
...if it is ever proven that it was killed illegally I will be found among the rest of the ethical, law abiding hunters that condemn him for his actions.

After closely looking at the "kill" PICS and then the "mount" PIC I believe for some reason a different cape was used on the mount. Maybe the guy toted it around too long showing it off and the cape ruined. In the "kill" PICS the buck has lots of white above his nose and also above his eyes. The "mount" pic cape does not appear to have the white. Maybe the "mount" PIC is just not close up enough or clear enough to tell but does look like a different cape to me. Not trying to insinuate anything at all with my observations, just saying I believe the cape is different. Could also explain the quick turn around on the mount.    All controversy aside, still a doggone nice buck!  I have no idea as to the where, when or how of this deer's demise, but looking at the photos I'd say the mount is a different cape, the white is gone from above the eyes and the ears are shorter. The photo in the back of the truck (hunter in camo) looks like it's the head & cape, not the whole deer.

So every decent deer shot in Alabama is automatically illegally killed Sounds like to me a bunch of grown men need to get a life and quit getting jealous every time a big deer is shot Deer this size are more common than everyone thinks but most people don't want you to know about it I know of several over 180 in that have been killed so they must have been poached then too And if it was poached I don't care unless it was on my land Damn, what a sentence! You wouldn't happen to have any arras for sale would you?!
