How can you even get the cape properly tanned that quickly?

One of the fastest turn arounds I've ever seen on a mount I wonder what has the strongest odor, that couch or that mount?

How can you even get the cape properly tanned that quickly? May not be his cape on that deer....taxi could have used another he already had tanned. From the looks of it in one of those pics the original cape looked a little rough.

Are the CO's for that county worth a damn? Seems they would have already been on this case. If the COs didn't see him shoot it or have someone step forward that did, I'm bettin' no case will be made against the hunter. As much controversy as there is you would think they would be asking questions, interviewing friends, possibly confiscating the cape while it was at the taxidermist until they completed the investigation. They don't have to have anyone step forward to do a thorough investigation. Surely they are looking into it. I bet they could confiscate the mount. But without someone willing to sing, it can be very tough to make a case like this. Our ol' buddy Troy can probably back me up on this. I think the COs want a slam dunk.

How can you even get the cape properly tanned that quickly? If it's dry preserved all you have to do is flesh it, rub on the powder and mount it up. Not saying that's the case as I have no idea what was done. Some of the in shop rub on "tans" in a bottle work the same way.

Joel Stone, one of the best around can go from fresh dead to mounted and dry in three weeks EASY. His mounts don't smell and last better than most any mounts out there.
A lot of taxidermists tan their own skins, takes all of 3-4 days to tan, add a day of prepping, and a day er two of taxi'ing and yer done except for the drying...add a couple of weeks to dry(I prefer more, but..) finish and yer on the wall....
I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....

If I ever shoot a deer like that, I'm going to tell about five different stories ranging from an early morning bow hunt to jacklighting over a corn pile with a crossbow tipped with a poison pod.
Cover the bases, so to speak. Tell a different story to every person out there. That way I'll be ahead of the curve and then refute anything and everything.

Just a strange situation. Looking back at the first picture...there appears to be a hole in the neck. Im doubting any tracking was required...
A deer that has been lying out all night will be hard to twist like the one in the wet crotch pictures

I had one of my good friends on land that I also hunted, kill a 100% legal deer during the daylight with out corn that scored 162" in Houston County. His family is very wealthy and they had the deer mounted and on the wall in 5 days. I went to the taxidermist to see the deer and he told me it was already on the wall. I said WOW how so fast, and his response was that MONEY TALKS! Not saying that is the case here by NO MEANS. I am merely pointing out the fact that it is doable. That is all. Whatever happened to innocent untill proven guilty? I guess every big deer killed in any state comes with questions like this being asked.

I have always thought Troy and a few others exaggerated about not posting their deer kills in this forum. Now...I see they are not. Without one modicum of evidence to support an illegal kill, this fella gets raked over the coals. It's pathetic and I for one think that people should do what most of our mother's taught us at an early age. If you ain't got nothin good to say....don't say nothin at all.

The thing is, this guy will never face a court or game warden so we all have to build our opinion on something. Each of us is reading the posts on here as they come in and building our opinion. Whether right or wrong we are all allowed to do that. There has been no first hand account of the hunt so what you are reading are people's opinion's. He is being tried in the court of people's opinion and that's just life.

I've seen more impressive deer get about a tenth of the "attention" that this one got, so I don't think it has as much to do with the size as all the stories out there that have come from friends plus the pictures that "seem" to contradict the story from the hunter.
The 2 170's from Jackson Co. drew no "haters" that I know of, so what's the difference??? the difference is everyone that knew the two hunters in Jackson Co. vouched for their story and even their integrity.
This deer could have been killed legally and honestly if it was me I might opt out of defending myself to a bunch of random guys on a talk forum, BUT the pictures coupled with all the stories create reasonable doubt and in a state with as many outlaws as Bama has it's not unreasonable to question how a buck was killed after all the speculation from people that know him...JMO
