Guess so, Prolly got 20 ladder stands and 20+ loc-ons up. I'm constantly moving them and adding more. I got several killin' places with 2 in the same place for different winds. One place has 3.

"Why do you ask"?

Too many people spend money they don't have , on things they don't need, to impress people they don't know.

I just continue to buy more lock on's and ladder stands. I love climbers once I'm in the tree, but even though the new ones are pretty quiet, there is nothing like being able to climb up a set of climbing sticks or a ladder. Easy and quiet...also beats climbing up a couple of benches with a stand on your back.

Probably make more sense to move some that I already have but the way I see it, the more "good" stand locations the lower the pressure. My goal every year is to have 3 or 4 really good spots in the mnt. that give me a good place regardless of wind, plus the other 8-10 stands that have produced over the years, plus foodplots for when I want to take my kids or I get tired of the mnt. These preferred stands are either new areas or just a new tree a hundred yds or so from an old stand location. Typically set these up based on previous season's sign or early fall pictures. Nothing like hunting a new spot, although unless you have unlimited acreage they get harder and harder to come by

I don't even need to post what I think as I think some guys like 2Dogs and Hogwild have nailed it.

It's all about pressure. Allowing the shooting of does off food plots is fine if the hunting pressure isn't bad. Strong hunting pressure and shooting does off food plots will, IMO, make mature buck sightings go way down.

Suggestion: Allow X number of does to be taken off a food plot then that's it. Have deadline dates as well.

One important issue clubs that have such rules about restricting the shooting of does off food plots.... If that's your rule, and you have hogs, you'd better include no shooting of "hogs" either as there's not much difference in shooting hogs and shooting does off food plots. They both amount to human scent and negative activity! Our club had a no shooting of does off food plots but didn't say anything about hogs, which to me, there's no difference!

The bottom line... it's all about negative pressure!

I mostly agree with your statement with the exception that the only reason to still shoot hogs is that they need to be elimated at all costs or they will eventually ruin your hunting and destroy habitat resources where as does do not have that effect.

I wish our club would do something like this. We kill around 60 does/year with around 20 members and 50 plots. Approx 50 of the does were killed on plots.

Maybe not allowing any does killed on plots is too much. Maybe only allow one doe/membership be killed from a plot? And only one doe/plot max?

I don't know, just seems less shooting on the plot would result in more deer on the plots in daylight later in the season which would result in more bucks visiting the plots in daylight hours during the rut.

Every peice of property varies. I personally dont care to hunt a greenfield by itself or shoot does of it but thats not saying I havent done it or wont again. I prefer to hunt creeks, trails, fence lines and open hardwoods.
Most of the urban hunters Ive hunted around at clubs of today dont know how to hunt the deep woods and find deer successfully and then some of us just get lazy and create these rules for not killing does of fields so that bucks will follow them out and we can pop em that way since you seldom see the big boys on greenfields during daylight hours. In my opinion thats why most of these clubs have created these rules, not to mention poorly managed pine plantations on timber land that eliminate alternate hunting in many ways. Just my two cents.

Lazy??

I guess you never thought that some people just actually enjoy seeing and watching deer and don't feel the need to hike in toting a stand and wading creeks to hide in a tree and shoot a doe to somehow prove our manhood.

If you want to shoot every deer that sticks it's head out....that is fine and your business. But, the pompous attitude that I see on here all the time of these modern-day Daniel Boones that think they are such great hunters kinda gripes my a$$!

The man asked if it would make a difference in the deer sightings and the answer was a resounding yes.

I think we all could give examples of a certain field, or a certain property, where both schools of thought have shown to work or not. But in general, presence and shooting in a spot will shut the deer down. But I'm telling you, the science of greenfields will make fools of us all. We have a small white oak ridge (maybe 1 acre in total size) surrounded by cutover, and on years when the trees have acorns you can hunt it every morning, and every evening, and kill the crap out of deer in bow season, and they just keep piling out time after time, even bucks. Yet there's a greenfield directly across the cut (you can see it from your tree on that ridge), and if you kill one stinking deer on that thing, it's O.V.E.R, period. What's the difference??? I suspect it's the openness of that plot, the lack of security the deer already feel. Even more crazy, we simply NEVER see bucks on the food plots, doesn't matter if we hunt/shoot them or not. You could see 20 bucks a season in the cutovers and hardwoods, but there'd be NO buck action on those fields. My conclusion?....If you have bucks coming on to fields to begin with, it probably has little to do with the lack of pressure, but I still recommend NOT shooting on your fields anymore than you just have to or want to. What we do is kill every stinking doe we see in bow season, then once gun season comes in, if we wouldn't mount it, we don't shoot it. No specific rules. But there's just 4 of us, all buddies.

I don't think that was the intent of his post...I know what he's saying. On most clubs I've been in, the stereotypes are like this: Usually, the same few members kill all the deer, and the difference is where they are hunting. There's always those guys who only hunt fields, and they always seem to complain "I don't know how y'all see all these bucks, I never see any". And my reply was always, "Man, you gotta get out of that ladder on the greenfield, and go down there and climb on those cutovers." It wasn't a manhood thing, it's just the nature of buck activity....they are all in those cutovers, where it's a long walk, and you have to tote a stand and climb 40' high, but they never come out on those fields where I hunt.

Hog wild...Inferiority complex?
You misunderstood every aspect of my post.
Thanks for the modern day Daniel Boone compliment. I never saw myself in that light..

The fact that you think that my post originated from some type of inferiority complex says a lot.

The few does we kill on plots are right at the beginning of the season. We shut it down the first full weekend of Dec. In a place with moderate to low deer density and smaller patches it makes a big difference in doe/buck sightings. If your hunting high deer density areas with large fields it has less effect. The more pressure you can remove from any hunting area the better. I can always go to a few road crossings I know and kill a doe about anytime and probably have a greater chance of killing a good buck.

I have some relatives that at the first of the season when the grass is green/tender and the deer are nailing the patches they scream "We need to kill some does" but when they get hunted a few weekends and patches get eaten down they see fewer deer and shut up. We dont have too many does - they are just concentrated in one area for the time being.
