All that means is a whole bunch of us North Alabama hunters are going to get leases down there now. I have a lot of friends in Tenn that will be looking as well. Thanks you guys! REALLY? Southeast MS and NW FL have Feb seasons now. How many leases do you and your buddies have there? You're more than welcome to ride four hours one way down here but you will be SORELY DISAPPOINTED in the AVERAGE deer down here, compared to N AL. there are some good deer killed down in this end, but by no means a lot of them. The VAST majority of hunters (with the means to do so) in Mobile and Baldwin county hunt in Clarke, Marengo, Butler, Wilcox, and Dallas counties. They don't leave SW AL just because they don't get to hunt in Feb.

The phones have been ringing this afternoon and more will follow on Monday morning. I would be surprised if Guy's proposal is passed as stated in the article.

if they extend the season ill quit deer hunting all together. i own my property and we have folks all around me from out of state and hunt the last two weeks put out corn and kill everything that walks.go ahead and extend it wipe out the rest of the good bucks that have to survive 14 weeks.just killem all

Guy will also introduce regulation creating mandatory, phone-based game-check system in an effort to collect more and better data on county-by-county basis.
I have ZERO cell signal at or around my hunting lease. How will they address those of us hunting in areas with no cell signal? I can call it in later when I get down the road away from my lease, but it won't be called in at the time of the kill.

I hope they don't include Choctaw county,I will lose 10 days of hunting with my dogs,and also the rut has already come and gone where I hunt near Scott Mtn. Just got back from 5 day hunt,no chasing at all now,was wide open last week.

Sitting in tree right now thinking how nice it will be to hopefully get to hunt the rut next year! Only seen chasing a handful of times in all the years of huning this lease.

One of my leases is in southern Conecuh County...in 3 years, we've killed 3 bucks in January and none of them was chasing, all eating in patches..Our lease has almost no pressure on it, we have killed several real good bucks on it every year, Sunday evening I hunted it, had 7 does in the field from 4:55 to dark and no bucks..."some" scrapes showed up in the fields in the last couple of days....I have Never seen the rut on it....so Hank can quit hunting for all I care and I'll buy his guns.

hey buddy get off the patches and get in the woods do a little leg work. i have 3 people on my property in south washington county 780 acres and we all hunt the woods a couple hundred yards off the greenfield and kill good bucks throughout the season.enogh said we will just break out the rifles in october and kill the big boys before it ever gets started so go ahead and extend the season.i killed two 8 points week before last checking scrapes in swamp get off the patches

I've only hunted a greenfield about 5 times all year buddy...I do plenty of "leg work"...this particular lease is thick planted pines...bucks frequent these patches all the time because of little pressure...we killed 3 bucks last week checking scrapes as well...

Personally, I think they ought to start bowseason Nov 1st and end gun season Feb 15th. A lot of bucks I have seen down here are still in velvet the first couple of weeks in October and the does still have spotted fawns that are waaaaay too young to be orphaned. It would be good to catch a full blown rut down here finally. They started chasing wide open the 30th of January last year on our place and I'm beginning to wonder if I will see it down here at all this year.
