I get to take my girlfriend down for the day and boy is she excited! She has been with me once last year and she just didn't want to shoot. I was able to shoot two does and she really enjoyed being out there. She'll be doing the shooting tomorrow and I can't wait for it to be here. We are leaving bham around 445 in the morning and we should be down to Macon county around 645 or so. I can't wait to spend the day with her and hopefully see her get her first deer. We are gonna sit on a field in the morning that is surrounded by 5 year old planted pines and then we will decide about the afternoon later. Hopefully they will be on there feet, should still be rutting in Macon county. It's sucked to see the forecast continuously get bumped up warmer and warmer but hopefully that won't shut them down. Good luck to everybody going tomorrow, I've been able to get 2 good bucks and a couple of does, and seeing her get her first would be icing on the cake to a great season.

Had a spike come out 5 minutes after we sat down, he was at the other end of the field and didn't stay out long, hopefully big boy will step out.

Small 8 point and small spike came out 50 yard away from us, I told her to get the gun up and the deer was acting nervous the whole time, by the time she got ready he ran off. She kept telling me he won't be still, and I was like man we just missed a great opportunity. Still early. I was amazed how quick we saw those deer. Have already heard 4 shots too

Whatever you do, don't yell at her. She will never go again.

Amen to that. Did that to my wife before she was my wife and she hasn't been back. Brings it up every time I ask her to go.

It just happened again with a 7 point and be was much better, I've done messed up and got mad. I wasn't mad the first time but the second time got me. Now she's all upset and I feel bad haha. I told her its part of deer hunting. It wasn't easy for me at the beginning. Still got the whole day ahead of us.

Tell her that if she doesn't pull the trigger you will find a woman that will. I'll start a fund for your funeral.

Just be glad she's with you. I feel your expecting too much out of the situation. You already wrote how excited you were for her going with you.

You've already won, by just having her with you. Praise her for what she is doing correctly, and stop focusing on what YOU feel is going wrong. If you don't, your probably gonna lose a lifetime hunting partner.

Much like taking my daughter, just do what she wants to do, and appreciate the moment. The hunt isn't always about the kill.

At a later time, you can use those moments where the deer came out, and how to be better prepared, but not now, as she will feel you are being negative.


Just my opinion, from a slightly envious guy. I wish my wife wanted to go hunting.

You're right Dave, it's been awesome though, we've had a wonderful morning and can't wait for the afternoon. I just got a little to excited in the heat of the moment, we've laughed about it all now. I just couldn't believe we saw those bucks so quick, well connect this afternoon and if we don't then it'll be alright. I hope the sun comes out.

Couldn't agree more with BOFF. I LOVE to be in the woods but neither of our boys nor my wife care a thing about it. To top it off, for many years my wife saw my time spent hunting was competing with my time with her. That made things really difficult. Thankfully, she realizes that's not the case anymore.

However, having a hunting buddy that's a person you love being with is absolutely a blessing. Cherish it and allow it to go where it will. You'll be a much happpier man for it!
