Now, it will be interesting to see what the counties are. I hope Monroe county is one of them. The rut has just started well at the end of January.

Guy said in order to compensate for the season extension in overall season length, the proposed regulation would also close deer season for 10 days during the first two weeks of December in that part of southwest Alabama where the extension is in place. If they're going to extend the season to give hunters in those areas a chance to hunt rutting bucks, that's fine. But why complicate matters by trying to find ten days of the regualr season, to shut down? All that means is that they're trying to avoid hunters from any unaffected portions of the state complaining about someone else getting more time to hunt than them. If the rut is later down there, then I suppose that they could delay the beginning fo the season in those particular counties, but shutting it down in December seems like creating more of a problem than solvong one. So, some hunter's going to whine and moan that "It's not fair. They get to hunt more than I do!" Really?! Sure they are! And they ought to be ashamed. Grown adults, pouting with their lip out. I don't hunt down that way. But I don't care if they get an additional ten days of gun season that I don't get. I know there are many valid asrguments on both sides of this situation, but DAMN. I hate that grown ups can act like children when they don't get their way or they worry about what someone else has got that they don't, cause they're worried about everything being fair. Fair is NOT equal. Fair is getting what you need. Rant over. Have a great weekend! Heck I would give them the entire month of Dec. for those ten days!

It could be about $, guys from LA coming North to hunt those 10 days it's closed and hunters from NA heading South the 10 days in Feb. I'm thinking it'll open as always, Sat. before Thanksgiving statewide, kids out of school, lots of folks off for the holiday. Then close it in LA for ALL deer hunting first 10 days of Dec. then reopen it and let it run till 10th of Feb. What's so hard about that? I'll not pout, as I've said several times before, I and many others don't care if LA hunts year round, just leave NA season alone.

Wonderful news...one thing I am extremely concerned about is our deer population in certain parts of the state. I wish this could be addressed as well. Go back to a doe season and allow large landowners to apply for extra tags if they need them. Have a biologist assess the request and issue an appropriate number of tags. I agree, set some doe days early in the year before the does are bred then hunt bucks a little longer. I'm totally against killing does in January anywhere in the state simply because they may be bred.

I like the way 2Dogs thinks. This is all most of us have ever asked for and it will be interesting. Our club has a 2 buck per membership limit now. Seeing some chasing, but last year, there were only 2 small bucks seen chasing. Will be curious to see if they start with Mobile and Baldwin and then move north a little each year or look at a few others.

offer the option of buying a license that allows you to deer hunt the existing season or a license that takes the first 2 weeks of dec. and gives you the first 2 in feb. It could be color coded and enforcement would be no different than we have now, the honor system. Regardless of property location, each hunter could choose the option that best fit their particular situation. total number of days hunted would remain the same statewide.

does it take effect this yr or next? Well, the meeting isn't until February 9 and they won't vote on it until the March meeting, so I'd say it would start next year It should be by Feb. 9 CAB meeting at Capital Auditorium in Montgomery. CAB members will not be able to vote on Guy's recommendations until the March meeting.

Why not just pick a parcel of land in Baldwin county and let the other places ride? Science is once again thrown out the window. Why have biologists?

To borrow a word from Bhamfred, "horsechitt". Why would they want to cut off just the SW part of Bama for an extension. They have the studies, the conception dates, etc. Most of south Bama was stocked with the same genetics that came from SW Bame. Sounds like a couple of politicians in SW Bama are going to get their way and the hell with the rest of south Alabama.

Some counties in se al have peak ruts ranging from late nov to feb. How do you propose to handle that with a north south zone? Most hunters seem to want more individual control over how to manage their properties - this gives the hunter the option of customizing his season to his particular property, regardless of location. Sounds pretty simple to a whole lot of folks in south alabama.

If there's LA counties with Nov rut, they'll be hunting till Dec. 1 then close for 10 days and re-open. I don't propose anything, I just got a good idea that's the way it'll be. All this multi- zone, county by county, gun hunt only in Feb, bow hunt only in Feb, buy an extra tag for Feb. not gonna happen.

Does anybody actually know what counties or areas are included in this SW Alabama season extension? Other than Commissioner Guy and a few in his inner circle, I doubt it. Hasn't stopped some here from having a duck fit about it already, though.
