Neighboring landowner next to our lease has bulldogs that wander all over our property. I would never shoot one, as I love dogs, but.....

Next time I catch one on the lease it's gonna get a vacation at my house until after the seasons over.

A dog hunters dog on your lease is him trespassing on you. Simple as that.

If you crossed the line and hunted on his land he'd flip out, though, wouldn't he?

This thread is absolutely ridiculous and full of assumption!
Is there anyone on aldeer that can verify the dog owners had been warned or nicely asked to keep their dogs away from the property??? NO!
Is there anyone on aldeer who can prove the dogs weren't released a mile away from the still hunters lease??? NO!!!
It's sad that it assumed by the majority on here that these guys turned their dogs out to run across someone's property and ruin their hunt, don't get me wrong I completely agree that the redneck outlaw throw some mutts in the truck bed and send them that way hunters are out there, but why would a guy invest near 1k on GPS tracking system for his deer dogs if he isn't a serious hunter? Everyone knows the chances of dogs getting shot during hunting season hell if I had caught a dog and talked to the owner and it become a reoccurring event I would more than likely kill the dog not for being on my land because the dog doesn't know better but to prove a point to a negligent dog owner be it a house or hunting dog and inform the owner but I also wouldn't lease a small tract of land and be asinine enough to think that if the land bordering me is dog hunted that the people who hunted the land and have hunted it would have some magical way to make the deer not run through my lease and people saying they're turning them out on our property line well I would want them to that'd increase the chance of them not running on to you, the people being accused of this could be trying to keep the dogs off of you by turning them loose at the line and sending them the opposite direction! Who's to say the deer aren't circling around??? The GPS tracker would and it sounded to me has if the guy was trying to get to his dogs to prevent them from crossing the line I guess they were just 400yds to late! I for one also don't understand how dog hunting is the cheap & lazy way out. A quality pup could cost up to a thousand dollars for a registered dog which I assure you some legitimate hunters run, high protein feed for hunting dogs is $30-40 a sack and multiple dogs means multiple sacks a week plus many other cost that goes along with taking care of a animal. You also have to feed these animals daily along with watering and kennel upkeep, doesn't seem to cheap to me! I hardly ever post on this site but I do enjoy monitoring it because there is normally some interesting topics that don't get blown out of porportion like this one has. I really hope some of you re-read the thread and realize how ridiculous and narrow minded some of these post (maybe even your own) are. None of us here know how many acres the dog hunters had or where they released the dogs or what direction they sent them in. Also none of us know if they hadn't been warned and that they didn't purposely send the dogs that way. Also those who don't agree with leasing land away from known dog hunting areas if you don't want to deal with it, would you rent or buy a house near a airport if you didn't want to have a lot of noise and then bitch everytime a plane takes off or lands or if you didn't want anyone on your property would you buy/rent a home near a sports complex and bitch because someone walked through your ditch to get to their vehicle after a game??? Still hunters leasing land next to dog hunters & dog hunters leasing land next to still hunters is like jumping in a barrel of rattlesnakes and getting surprised you got bit. I care neither way how any of you feel about the topic but I do feel that both groups should have equal rights and outlawing dog hunters should be punished. I also believe that communicating and trying to be gentleman like to the neighboring landowner/leasie would go a long ways. It wouldn't be hard at all to introduce yourself and exchange numbers 99% of people I know that fool with deer dogs would gladly work with you on not running while your hunting and realistically unless you have just thousands of acres there's no guarantee the dogs won't cross a property line I'm sure most would even invite you has to where a extra stander never hurts but maybe some choose to stereotype ( on both groups sides) and have no intrest in being civil or logical about it.

I caught a couple of dogs behind the house earlier this year and called the owner and told him I had them and would meet him and give them back. I tried having a conversation with him and asked him to please try and keep his dogs off my land, I explained that I wasn't going to shoot his dogs but I really didn't want to see them again. His answer to me was pretty much that I couldn't do anything to stop him. I think that is the attitude most dog hunters have. No respect!

Sad and not surprising the worst part about it is most of the ones with that attitude have it bc they think all non dog hunters are out to shut them down and then they wonder why they're (dog hunters) are becoming more and more unwanted, failing to realize its theirselves the whole time. Although with that being said you do have the hardcore still hunters who think a dog cutting through a corner of their property will chase all the deer off which is ludacris thinking a deer won't return to its home after being jumped and ran by a natural predator such has a dog or coyote. The still hunters with this mentality would have it made illegal to own a hunting dog if possible.

They just came out a couple of months ago. Garmin Alpha.

They are expensive and most places have them on back-order.

Hard to believe that a bunch of drunk, inconsiderate, slob, outlaw hunters would pay $1000 for the system and 1 collar + roughly $300 apiece for additional collars, huh???

BUT, they are being sold as fast as they are being made!

Any dog can get agressive when startled therefore justfy a bullet to the head. I had two walker coon dogs act like they were going to eat me up while sitting on my favorite rock one time. I say dog hunters should have minium 1000 acres to hunt and be charged with trespassing for their dogs.

HW, now don't get pissed at me as I agree with most things you say but with all due respect to you, IMO, you're putting words into other people's mouths or maybe painting everyone on here with too broad a paintbrush. People are not giving more credit to dogs than simply what dogs do.

Many on here are not saying that such is the norm but that it happens. I have seen it where dog hunters had land surrounding a 80 or 200 acre tract and put them out on a track going into the land they didn't have permission to hunt.

I don't think anyone is suggesting the dogs are trained.

Here's a question...........I know several dog hunters and I know my opinion on this question. What do dog hunters do with dogs they have that won't run deer??

Most I know shoot them, or turn them loose and leave them somewhere. They don't feed them year-round I can assure you.
I've actually known these guys to take the collars off other people's hunting dogs, put their collars on them, and hunt them like they owned them. Dog hunters around here are their own worst enemy.

The goings on in Florida too:

Quote:

Hunt club president arrested for killing dog
By LYNNE HOUGH | news@srpressgazette.com
Published: Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at 11:20 AM.

The president of a local hunt club was arrested last month for shooting a dog and then dragging the animal two miles down a country road - tied by a rope to his vehicle.

Originally charged with a felony, James Sousa, 48, was arrested on a warrant for animal cruelty. Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Officer Doug Berryman says he was notified last week the felony charge was being changed to a misdemeanor by the State Attorney's Office. He says whether or not the animal suffered is a determining factor in deciding the level of a charge.
Sousa is the president of the Cabin Creek Hunt Club.

Berryman says Sousa shot the hunting dog in the shoulder with a Remington .270 rifle, killing the dog on or about Dec. 10th. Officials believe the dog was dead when Sousa tied it to his vehicle. A blood trail was left during the dragging, indicating the animal was dragged immediately following the shooting.

A report filed by Berryman says Sousa killed the animal because loose dogs in the area have been "running the deer" on the property of the hunting club. Sousa told the officer he heard three dogs running deer, but did not see them. Reports say he got out of his stand, looking for the dogs and heard them around his camp. He went there, saw one dog walking around, "not doing anything" and he shot the dog from the road, the dog fell dead at the corner of his porch. He got some rope, tied it to the dog and dragged it to Munson Hwy. at Indian Ford Road. He left the dog there "to make a statement to those people who are constantly running dogs illegally on his property."

The dog was one of three hunting dogs belonging to a man living on Indian Ford Rd. The dogs escaped from the pen at home and did not come back. While the owner was looking for his animals, he found the dead dog.

Officials with the FWC are addressing the problem of hunting dogs on unauthorized property.

Man, I ain't mad at anybody.....

And, furthermore, I don't even dog-deer hunt!

I just want people to THINK objectively and use common sense on BOTH sides!!!!

Good HW. Glad you're not. Anyway, dog hunters are their own worst enemy. Not all dog hunters are bad and dog hunting, which I grew up doing, has its place however, "its place" is slowly shrinking as time moves on. People have a right, if they chose, to not have dogs roaming on their property.

I think in order to dog hunt deer, there needs to be a min "contiguous" acreage. This may already be on the books... I don't know as I haven't dog hunted since the mid 80's and I no longer see dog hunters anywhere near where I hunt.

Certainly, hunters in general, dog and stalk, haven't helped themselves in the public relations area as a group.

I have had talks with multiple dog owners who let their dogs run free. I have yet to have even one show any concern or vow to stop the problem.

I ALWAYS let them know it's not safe for a dog to be running loose. And I leave it at that.

If it comes to me I'll take it to the pound, FAR away from their home. If it doesn't...well SSS happens...
