Well thats it, I've tried two years in a row here, but the deer density in the Rucker gun huntng areas is just pitiful. So I'm going to hunt bow only on post (when I do hunt here), and spend more time hunting Barbour and Blue Springs. It's pretty sad when I here the stories of the great Rucker deer hunts in the 80's, and when I have seen deer here (All 3x....in two years), they are BIG bodied suckers. I'm gonna try to help out with Hog and yote problem here, maybe that will help the deer population thrive again. It's too bad with the amount of land, and beutiful food plots here that there is not no deer population to match it.

As long as you're hunting on military bases, try Fort Benning. Its covered up with deer.

I've heard that but them out of state license fees will kill ya.

A small portion of it is in Alabama around Fort Mitchell. We used to have a club across the road from it.

the deer cant compete with the pigs. it would take a lot of pig killing to improve the deer herd.

I know a couple of guys that have killed big bucks on the GA side of Benning. However, I was told you have to have a mil ID to hunt there. I'm not sure if that is the case, it might be worth checking into.

I sympathize with you. We own family land fairly close to Rucker. 600 acres and only my dad and wife hunt it beside me. We see VERY few deer. I've actually considered hunting Rucker in hopes of seeing a deer, but it doesnt sound like that would be the case. Between hogs, yotes, surrounding corn piles, and night hunting, the law abiding hunters don't have a chance. I got a FoxPro for Christmas so I'm going to try thinning the yotes out some...

I can feel your pain since my place is also near Rucker. I have 320 acres near Ozark and am the only one who hunts it. Good habitat, good plots, very low pressure and just do not see a lot of deer. So far this year I have seen deer 5 out of 10 sits, with just two small six points. I believe that for whatever reason the deer in my area are very highly nocturnal and just don't seem to move as much as some places. Last year in January I would have swore there were no deer on my place after not seeing one in 3 days of hard hunting.Then I had twelve different deer go by me in about 2 hours one morning and saw deer the rest of the year. They were there the whole time, they just weren't moving enough during the day to see them.

Yes. The GW has done pretty well with stopping the night hunting...on our place at least. The corn is another issue...I don't believe the GWs have the manpower to stop it.

Check out Eglin or even some of the Florida WMA's on the Choctawhatchee River good hunting, low hunting pressure on most, and low nonresident license fees. Someone sent this picture to me and said it was recently killed on Eglin.

If im not mistaken in the southern zone of georiga your allowed to hunt deer over corn, and the whole state you must be 200 yards away but out of line of sight. your also allowed to bait for hogs in the whole state as well and hunt them at night on private land. so your neighbors may not be doing anything wrong.

That would be true if we were talking about GA. But Rucker is in Alabama so is the property in question.

KLOW, One word for ya, Eufaula, hunt the refuge man. Its bow hunting only, BUT I see deer on the reg. Me and several of my friends all hunt it and we have no problems seeing deer. You dont' HAVE to have a boat to see deer, but you do need a deer hauler, i drug a 7 point about 1/2 mile earlier this year. Need some help send me a Pm.

If Eglin AFB was the only place I could hunt, I would quit hunting. Too many idiots.

2 does a day + 60+% fawn mortality = LOW DEER DENSITY

However in a few years it will be back to good numbers and good hunts....Burt has it on the right track.

And the damn refuge sucks! I wouldn't waist my time...

I live here in Dothan, about 30 mins from Rucker. I tried to find the rules needed to hunt there, but failed to find anything worth while to help . Maybe some of you that have hunted it can lead me ion the right path? I am actually wanting to hunt hogs and varmints out there.

I thought they were not allowing does to be killed there this year some one said. ?
