I know sportdog makes a collar (SD 1225) with a vibration feature that will help you collar condition your dog so you don't have to shock him. It has the shocking capabilities if you ever need to really stop him (like from running in the road or what not) but a buddy of mine collar conditioned his dog with one of these collars by primarily using the vibration feature.
