Here is my situation.
I sent my lab to school at 6 months old and he was trained no force to the level of a started dog( Stopping to whistle with hand signals etc). He still has some puppy in him and has a bad habit of picking up a bird and bringing it back within 10 yards of me and then breaks down and wants me to chase him. His trainer is not in favor of shock collars so I have never tried one but I am leaning that way because there is no way to correct him when he takes off with the bird because I can't catch him and chasing him only makes it worse.
The twist in the collar conditioning....We recently had an electric fence put in the yard so that he gets popped if he tries to cross the line...with the flags down he recently got stuck in the shock zone and it constantly shocked him for 10 seconds until the safety feature cut it off after 10 seconds.
I mention this because I don't want to put the hunting shock collar on him and pop him when he starts to run with my bird and him freeze up and relate the shock to where he is standing in the field or anything else.
With that being said, I want to know how to collar condition an already trained dog with a small correctional issue. Anyone have any videos or articles they can recommend?
