New to muzzle loaders and buying one for my grandson.I've got the gun{thompson center}and have always loved hornady bullets so am leaning towards there 3oo grain sst sabot. However, after that i'm lost! What powder is the easiest to clean up after and what else do I need to get for him for hunting with it and clean up? I know I opened up a can of worms and I'm not trying to start a war of what's best but,I need a list of things that are needed for proper use. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! thumbup

Thanks

Blackhorn 209 powder.

I was going to suggest a lighter bullet weight if he was very young to reduce the recoil, but not for an 18 year old laugh

I've heard good things about the Blackhorn but I'm still shooting loose pyrodex that I got during an after season closeout years ago. Good luck with whatever you choose thumbup

I always shot the pyrodex pellets on my Kodak pro 209. Is it a tc encore?

It's a t/c impact. Can't afford an encore right now.Keeping the cost down to make sure he's gonna take care of it.

I like the 777 pellets. Seem to be a little cleaner.

The easiest clean up, period, is with Blackhorn 209. It's also not corrosive either.

Blackhorn 209 is far and away the best for anything other than a smokeless powder gun. Beats 777, pyrodex Shockeys, all of 'em.
I also prefer loose powder over the pellets, if you get some of the speedloaders to carry in your pocket that already have the premeasured powder charges, its not any slower to reload than pellets.
