it's hit in upper leg. in slo mo you can clearly see leg floppin.
i did that to a doe at 50 yards season before last. 180 grain cor loct 30-06. pretty much shot front leg off. still don't know how i missed that much so close.
she didn't go 50 yards and bled out quick. demolished large leg artery. i'm suprised if you don't find blood.

Looks like bone fragments flying up behind him to me....I think leg just below chest cavity. Hopefully you will get some pics or another sighting for confirmation. It's hunting and it happens. I thought maybe hair off the backside of the leg. I see the side movement but I think it is a muscle reaction to the broken leg...which is sure looks like to me. Hate that it happened to the young man.

I know this isnt my deer or anything but it is bugging the piss outta me! To me it looks like a a good hit... Did you find any blood at all? No blood and we even had two excellent dogs with us. I have seen these dogs in action before and they would have found the deer if he was dead. I am never quick to give up on a deer and I am confident that this deer survived. And believe me, I was like you at first. It looked like a good hit. BUT, when I put it on my bigger screen and slowed the original footage down frame by frame (which you can't do on the youtube link), it is obvious he was hit in the upper leg. Hopefully he will show up on a trail camera. If he does, I will post it.

Leg shot....look at the slow motion after he turns to run. You can see the injured leg flopping

My son shot this deer this evening and we found no immediate blood. We decided to back out and go back in the morning. If you look real close behind his leg, it looks like the bullet hits him. Or, it is just his skin moving as he picks up his leg to run. What do you think? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhtL18dw1lw I just told a story on the thread "how many of you have lost a shot deer" of a boy I carried on a youth hunt 2 years ago. It was the same shot placement as your sons and the deer was shot a month later by another guy that hunted the property. I beleive that deer will live as long as the yotes don't get him but if he isn't killed this year the wound could effect his rack next year.

Looked like it hit just above the knee joint to me. Honestly, I think you will be wasting your time looking for this deer. What kind of hunter would you be if you didn't spend a decent amount of time looking for this deer. Aside from the fact that he is a mature quality buck that uour kid shot. video evidence shows that the bullet hit the deer. It may have been s poorly plzced shot but you never know unless you look. You may or may not find this deer but as a hunter you should always try to recover a deer that you shot. Hnters that dont try and recover all game that we have reason to believe we connected with gives scall a bad name. Man I really hope you find him . Please keep us posted.

Sure looks like a leg shot ,leg does appear to be broken you will get another chance at him ,I killed a deer this year that I had pictures of in Feb that had it`s leg almost shot off , I posted pictures of him this year after I shot him nice buck

Hit Right leg between knee and lower shoulder.
Good luck but I wouldn't get my hopes up. I would be shocked if there is much of a blood trail.
