Who on here bowhunt swampy areas that have alot of water standing. Got a beaver swamp on my place that holds a lot of bucks. I was curios about how someone would ever find a deer in these locations. I wouldn't figure finding blood would be too easy?

If that is where they are then go shoot one and worry about the tracking afterwards. My opinion is that a ton of bow-shot deer travel less than 100 yards when shot. Just be sure and listen after the shot, I would think you could a deer running in that water pretty easy. I hunt around water and we easily hear hogs and deer in it.

I tracked one across a swamp several years ago down at Portland. You really have to pay attention. Go as slow as you think you should and then slow down a bunch more. Depends on the swamp. Normally there are lots of floating items, trees, brush, weeds, duck weed, etc.... Look ahead for the trail. If a deer blows through it will take time for the items to float back into position. You can still see a blood trail on these items. Watch for the splashes. And like said above listen and mark the direction you last heard noise.

Hopefully, the water won't be deep. If it is, that makes it much more difficult.

We've got an area like that too. Find all kinds of rubs in the middle of it, but there's no trees or anything to put a stand on cause they've all been killed by the water. Ground blind you'd have to find a pretty firm area and your line of sight wouldn't be so hot.

How would you hunt it, just find a good stump or log to sit on?

I'd find a tall tree along the edge where a trail that crosses a beaver dam comes out. Hunt it heavily during pre and during the rut. They push does around alot in these wet areas. Nothing excites me more than the sound of them walking in water before you can see them.

I shot a small 6 in the swamp its awesome watching them go crashing down In the water.

My swamp covers prolly 10-15 acres. It is deep in certain places. I have found an area of semi dry land between two beaver ponds with 3-4 foot deep water. I hunted it last Sunday morning saw 3 rack bucks one that was a good one. Then two other deer busted me. Not sure what they were one blew about 10 times the just broke a bunch of sticks and then run off that one may have been a buck. I didn't have a shot on the good buck it was too thick. But that is how I found this little funnel I have picked out a good tree for my next hunt I was just thinking about tracking a deer shot with a bow. I may give it a shot.

Focus on the a good shot, worry abt that other stuff later, on a side note they are much easier to drag in water

Nice picture Moose. Bucks love bedding in places like that. They walk right through those wet areas on Wheeler no matter what the weather. One caveat to that though, my friend stuck a good buck out there last year and tracked him in and out of numerous wet spots for over 2 miles before he lost the trail. He spent over two days looking total and no sign of him. But...that buck was gonna do that even if he'd shot him a long ways from the water. That's where he was comfortable.

I've got several friends down in FL that regularly kill bigger bucks than anybody thinks are in the areas they hunt because they wade into the middle of the swamp and find the bedding areas. Not a lot of folks will walk through water for a half a mile to go hang a stand but the deer don't give it a second thought. They feel safe there.

I hunted flooded timber in north arkansas and saw more bucks in the water than i did on dry land. I had to get there by boat and wear waders. the deer were walking through belly deep water with ease.
