I'm not so sure about the leg hit.
Looks to me like it could have hit in the pocket behind the shoulder. However at the camera angle, the shot would have been far forward in the opposite side.
No blood means nothing. What caliber and bullet load was he shooting?
You did right in backing out. One of the best moves you could have done!!!
My daughter made a less than desirable hit on her first buck and we found him. No blood or anything, other than visually marking where he left the field, and backing out quietly, and looking the next day.
Found him about 100 yards in a straight line from where he left the field. Regarldless, it took about 3 hours of searching.
Prayers for you two finding him right away. I know it tore my daughter and I up with the poor hit, but it ended up being a positive learning experience in what to do, and not do next time.
