I've heard several people talking that none of the plots got plantef this year. He didn't even bother plant the 5 small fields on the handicap area. These people have to sit in assigned shooting houses and stare at nothing.

Hey ridge I talked to Mr Allen the biologist about that. He said there were only three of them that were doing the plots this year and 2 of those guys got called down south to help construct a new firing range. He said he had done all that he could by himself. I volunteered to help but he said the state wouldn't allow that. I then said I would sign a waiver because it had to do with insurance. He said they still wouldn't do it.
There are a few plots in coon that were planted but not many. Most were just bush hogged and there was some new grass coming thru in bow season.

The number and quality of food plots on Skyline WMA has been in decline over the last ten-fifteen years. Every year it seems there are less and less that actually get planted and the ones that do look pitiful. Not sure why this is. I sure wish they would bring back the Wade Manning era plots with the greenfield/chufa patches. Those were awesome. You could hunt about any plot and see deer,and the chufa patches were covered up with turkeys in the spring. However, they are adding more land to the WMA every year. Even though there is no access to it.....

Makes me  . They just got Forever Wild extended to buy more and can't maintain what they have! DCNR should be ashamed! If they can't do better than that they should get out of the land business. The shooting range in LA could wait till the plots/work got done. We should make some phones ring, where you at 49er. Of course they'll say they have no $, bull,if you can't keep it up sell it! I don't hunt WMA's , if I did I'd be really mad! And if I hunted them and were handicapped, me and the Guv would have a talk!

I do not hunt wma's anymore,and I think this is the reason why lots of people quit hunting on them,they raise the price of our hunting,and wma license,and there is no management of the deer or the land.I do still buy a wma license just to support our hunting lands,but if they don't start doing something,I will quit buying them.

This only my 3rd season on the big tract (been a part of 2 of the 3 clubs on it). There are guys that have a whole lot more time, money, and sweat equity invested than I do. It still sux regardless.

He had about 10 million reasons to sell. As for the plots, we've got over 60 acres on our lease alone, not to mention what the other clubs have. If they can't plant what they've got, there's no way in hades they'll plant what they're getting. CD.

I was referring to the newest addition to Skyline at the foot of crow mountain. It is an area called Goshen hollow. Just added it but there is no access other than a VERY narrow strip that touches co rd 33 on top of crow. Trying to park here and walk off the bluff and all the way to the good land in the bottom would be insane. This is not the only place either.It seems that Forever wild does not want motorized traffic on their land. We have 3500 acres of prime land they bought from PRV lodge, but you have to park on the edge of the property line and wade across the paint rock river if you want to hunt it. There is just no feasible way to get to the majority of this property if you park there and walk in. There's a TON of land on skyline that just can't be accessed on foot by hunters. These mountains are brutal. Here's the problem with this. Me and you have to walk in if we want to hunt any of this even though there are good roads all over it. However, there are plenty of people who have to use these same roads to access their property. This creates a very good scenario for the people with property adjoining the walk in only areas. The guy who owns 40 acres on the back side of this 3500 acres now has 3540 acres that he can legally hunt. Few years ago me and a buddy walked from hwy 79 down to the bottom of the walls of Jericho tract turkey hunting. We got on a bird and were slipping around an old road trying to get closer. Turned a curve and walked right up on a guy sitting on a stump listening to the bird we just located. We told the guy we were sorry, that we didn't think anyone was in the area because there was not a vehicle parked anywhere along the road on top. Turned out, he had a key to the gate in the bottom of the walls of jericho tract because of some land he had leased in the area. I don't blame these guys at all. I would do the same thing if I had adjoining land. I just think the number one goal of public hunting land should be to make it better suited for the average tax paying citizen who can't afford to buy or lease land of his own. I'm afraid there are other motives. I'm very thankful to have all this public land where I live, but it is not being managed or utilized to it's potential. Skyline could easily be the best WMA in the state, but it's not. This bothers me. Sorry for the long post.

He had about 10 million reasons to sell. what a pisser! the state of alabama is in the process of giving the shaft to us dumb arses that bought PACT contracts for our children to go to college on. meanwhile, they are using these funds to overpay for land they won't manage correctly! just to sweeten the 'deal', i'm losing my club!! 10 million?! absolutely unbelievable
