Something has got to be done about people texting and driving. Twice in the last month I've been nearly sideswiped by someone texting. I know this because that's what they were doing when they passed me on the interstate and nearly bumped into me getting back over.
I witness people texting and driving continuously. Most are in their 20's and 30's.
So what's being done about this? What can be done? Can you call the State Trooper Hotline? (Allot of good this will do)

Yesterday morning, coming into Birmingham over Double Oak Mountain a woman was driving with an Ipad on her steering wheel and reading.
I laid on my horn as I passed, but in reality there is NOTHING anyone can do about it.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

Until vehicle manufacturers and the gubbermint decide to install some kind of device that ceases cell phone transmission while the vehicle transmission is engaged, nothing will happen other than more deaths and accidents.
That solution would have myriad arguments, foremost being (1) safety and (2) civil liberties in your personal vehicle, despite being on a public thoroughfare.
Does the safety of others, the 'greater good', outweight your privilege to use a cell phone? Because it would be argued that a cell phone (or device, iPad, etc.) is not a right but a privilege.
Or, insurance companies could require a polygraph upon any accident and not pay a penny to anyone if results show the driver was texting or using an e-gizmo.
Big can o' worms.
When accidents or deaths from texting and driving are treated with the same scorn as drunken driving, maybe something will change? Shouldn't have to regulate common sense, though.

My wife's car got rear ended and totaled by a teenage girl last May. She told the trooper the sun blinded her.He just looked at and said "you sure." They were going east and 4:30 in the afternoon.

I'd be supremely pissed if I pulled off on the shoulder or even into a parking lot, and got ticketed. I'm not driving, I'm parked.

And we wonder why the bike enthusiasts cry about their rights to share the same black top as the vehicles. If you ride a bike on these text happy highways, you need your head examined.
I'd like to build myself a rig something like what Mel Gibson had in those Mad Max movies for these texters.

I see people reading news papers, books, eating, dog in their lap or bouncing all around the car to. Not to mention drivers so slouched back in their seat they can't possibly see over the hood. I can see how people develop road rage.

They can also text when the vehicle is stopped and in neutral or park.

Start watching the cops texting or talking on their phones. They also often use their work laptops while driving down the road. Its crazy man.
Technology is crippling us in many aspects. Do folks even have conversations with one another in restaurants anymore?

I have thought about this quite a bit. Instead of it being forced upon drivers by the government, perhaps such a device could be required by certain insurers or simply by parents or vehicle owners. Who wants to into business with me? You think we'd see folks driving down the road and holding their phone out of their window to text?

I DO NOT TEXT WHILE DRIVING. Now I might send an email, but I dont text. I might text while in a trafic jam, but I DONT TEXT WHILE DRIVING. Now if my wife sends me a text ill read it, but I DONT TEXT WHILE DRIVING.

A friend of mine's son got hit head on by his own neighbor (parent) while the parent was texting and driving home from dropping the kids at school. No one was seriously hurt but very awkward.
not sure what the best way to handle them is but they shouldnt be on tv and gettn married and raisin kids
