We leased a new property last year that has a 17 acre hayfield on it. My 1st attempt last year was to overseed with crimson clover to add to the browsing selection for the deer and turkey. It did come up somewhat but never fully matured. I’m debating to overseed crimson clover again or winter wheat. What have you done in this situation that had success?

Did you bushhog after you spread the clover?
Any chance the farmer sprayed the field with a forb selective herbicide?

It was bush hogged prior to overseeding and it had been sprayed months prior. He has not cut hay on it yet as they haven’t gotten all the plants killed off in order to have pure hay crop. They will bush hog again this year but aren’t spraying until the spring.

I wish I had access to a drill but overseeding is the best I can do at this point. The deer still used the feild regularly last season but I’d like to add forage and help concentrate them closer to the shooting house and it’s mainly kids hunting.
