What makes WMS seed any better than a cheaper brand that has the same germination rate? I saw one bag of their mix at the feed store that was $68 for a bag. I think the cheapest bag of WMS seed mix i saw was 38 a bag. Thats just crazy to me You would need to compare the amount and types of clover to get a fair comparison. I mix my own and I’m over $100 per acre on the clovers alone.

Thats just crazy to me $49 a bag that plants an acre for deer magnet versus you need two bags of oats for over 20$ a bag to plant an acre typically…plus get all the clovers and all in it it doesn’t seem as crazy when you look at it that way

We’re planting this weekend, whatever wheat, oats and rye mix they have. I think it’s about a month early but everybody is available so we’ll see. We have gotten a fair amount of rain in Lowndes County these past few weeks so I hope it doesn’t shut off.

Our group doesn’t bow hunt so that changes things a little for us. We plant for January,….so the earliest we plant will be Halloween weekend. Have pushed it to late November before based on rain. Have used the WMS Triticoat blend for the last 7-8 years and have been very pleased with it.

"Wheat seeds can technically germinate in soil temperatures up to 99 °F, though temperatures above 85 °F often cause delayed germination or poor seedling emergence. Optimal range: 54 °F to 77 °F provides the fastest and most uniform stand.
The maximum soil temperature for successfully planting and germinating clover is generally around 80°F to 85°F (27°C to 29°C). Optimal Range: 60°F to 80°F"

Says 96 here tomorrow. I’m waiting at least 4 weeks unless we get a major change in the weather soon.

I had a doctor I tracked for last year text me about a week ago asking my advice on planting…..what mix I used, etc…….he said they were getting ready to plant in the next few days……I replied that my advice would be to wait that it was way too early……he never texted back after that……People gonna people I guess

Unfortunately when you have a club and a lot to plant, you can't always pick the best time. You have to give people notice, so they can plan to attend and you need quite a few guys unless you have all kinds of equipment and it doesn't take many people. Predicting rain is not always easy unless you can do the work a couple days out. We are so thankful we have a great bunch of guys willing to put in the time needed! We plant and then pray a lot.

The weekend of Oct 10-11 is a heck of a lot better gamble than mid September for clubs that have pre-plan it......You at least give yourself a chance on the weather being cooler and soil temps having fallen off some.....especially if you're no-tilling and leaving thatch over the soil

We are disking this week and planting next Sat. I hope this works out, but we will see. Its hard to get 15 or more together to plant in mid Oct., due to ball games and other fall activities. We have a great sign up for next Sat.

Went out today and am trying the throw and mow for 1st time, did 5 spots today with wheat and crimson clover, got done and the bottom fell out here! So with the rain germination ought to be good, i am in the E zone for 1 Oct start.
