Neck shots seem to be the ticket with subs from what I’ve seen

Are subs this bad out of a 350 legend?

I shoot discreet ballistics ammo, but I don't not shoot that gun over 100 yards. Also have the Ruger.

I know several people that do. They say you hear two things. The firing pin hitting and the does hitting the ground. But all have said stay at 80 yards and under with a 300 blkout

I wouldn’t shoot a deer beyond 50 yards with 300 blk out subs.

Grab a bow. It's a deer. They are one of the easiest things to kill.

I'm currently in load development with a 300 Blackout 10" AR pistol and Ops Inc 3rd Model suppressor. My powder is IMR 4227 and I've been shooting Hornady Interlock 220 gr round nose and 180 grain Spire Point bullets. Neither bullet is designed for subsonic purposes but they are what I had on hand. I'm loading 8.7 to 10 grains of powder and getting velocities from 887 to 1029 with excellent accuracy out to 100 yards. Yesterday I got a delivery of Hornady SUB-X 190gr that ARE designed for subsonic use and I'll be shooting them tomorrow or Monday. I already loaded a few rounds with 9, 9.5 and 10.4 (max load) grains of 4227 and should get great results.

I have a friend that shoots a 300 BO... he loves the subsonics... has shot at three deer last season at 100 yds or less says he hit all three.... didn't recover any of them.... said all three turned and ran off... hunts with a suppressor on each time...I said they most likely died somewhere around the property or are limping around right now... I told him subs are too low powered for deer unless he's playing Texas hold em with them...I told him get him some 300BO supersonic hunting rounds with mushrooming bullets or put the 300BO down. Also, I said bad shot placement can be a reason any deer gets away to live another day.

My 300blk was minute of Pizza box at best at 50yds. I dont have it anymore

I have three 300blk weapons. A Ruger RAR, a 16” AR with a Noveske barrel and a 9” AR pistol (Ballistic Advantage barrel). Both ARs are DIY projects. The worst groupings I’ve ever had were about 2.75moa. Most everything else has been .75 to 1.5ish.
Subs will work as well as a broadhead assuming proper range, shot placement, and bullet selection.
But I still use mostly supers for deer hunting. Barnes 110 and 120 TAC-Tx rounds. Clean kills out to 230 yards so far.

My 300 is a tack driver with subs and supers. You may need to try another rifle.

So would yall suggest hunting with super sonic rather than sub? Supers not drop as quick?

Absolutely. Subsonic is just the same round with less powder. It goes slower. Which by definition means it drops quicker at a given distance.

Maker bullets produces bullets that perform at subsonic velocities very well. You need to load your own ammo to use them as I'm not aware of any loaded ammo with their bullets.

The Hornady 190 gr Sub X bullet is very accurate in my 308 loaded to 1060 fps out to 100 yards. Never shot a deer with them and I've read that their performance on critters is inconsistent. Just started load work with a 168 gr Maker Sub bullet and it's been more difficult to find an accurate load than with the Sub X.

As I recall most of the Makers and Lehigh(sp) that were designed for hunting(maximum expansion at low velocity) were in the 220-245gr range. There are subtle yet distinct differences between a small rock moving slow and a big rock moving slow when they hit a target. Light for caliber subs are not likely to be as effective as the big heavies.

You want to be >1,000ft lbs of energy for deer. A 300 with subsonics will only produce ~500ft lbs at the muzzle. Really shouldn't use that for deer.

Does an arrow with a broadhead produce 1000 ft lbs? No, not even close.

A bullet designed to expand at sub velocities and good shot placement will kill a deer.

A .22wm makes about 300#ft at the muzzle. Plenty of deer have been killed with those and at longer ranges. Lots of folks hunt with .44mag and those are barely topping 850-1000 at the muzzle from a carbine or pistol.
But I certainly understand and respect the sentiment. 800-1000 was what my dad always taught me. That’s 350-550 yards on the rifles I would use at those distances, and almost always closer, but sometimes I only have a 30-60 yard shot.

i remember 300 sub bout the same as a357mag . i aint had no problems with a 357 mag out of a rifle barrel . a three year buck i shot at 117 yrds went right thru .
