Got bumped up to alternate at Portland for opening weekend. Thinking I’m gonna pass and not burn my points on this though

I’m guessing we’re going to be better off doing the hunt at Portland, but anyone got experience with both that can weigh in? Does one have better on site amenities/camping than the other?
I’d do both! Get to see 2 amazing properties and have a chance to kill 12 does. I think you can kill 3 per person per hunt. Sounds like a helluva cool weekend to me! There are so many deer on those properties one isn’t much better than the other. Neither has amenities. Y’all gonna have to stay at a state park or in Camden maybe. I’d go ahead and book it now. Maybe a VRBO or Air B&B?

Got selected as alternate for Cedar Creek 1/14 hunter’s choice gun hunt. If I accept, then don’t get moved up to hunter, would I lose my preference points? If moved up and for whatever reason can’t make the hunt and have to decline, I assume you lose the points.

My son got picked for Cedar Creek SOA hunt for 02/04/27 to 02/07/27. I will be his guest. I got picked back in 2023 for Cedar Creek SOA hunt for the early February hunt and my son went as my guest. That hunt on Cedar Creek SOA was the best hunt I have ever went on in Alabama for me personally. I did not kill anything but I seen plenty of deer and bucks and enjoyed it thoroughly. My son killed a decent 7 point. Looking forward to this upcoming hunt. The bucks were in full rut for that early February hunt in that specific part of Dallas county.

No. You only lose points is you select a hunt and go on it. Or if you get selected and don’t go or if don’t cancel your hunt in the window required. Mrs. Bamaeyedoc had spinal stenosis in her neck and was in agony 3 weeks before her Portland hunt a few years ago. We made somebody’s day when she had to withdraw from the hunt. Her PP rolled over and 2 years later she had the hunt of her life on Portland.

You don’t lose PP as an alternate if you don’t get bumped to Hunter status.

I drew opening week archery at Cedar Creek, but had a change of plans and had to decline. I currently have 4 points. I also drew as an alternate for Uchee, Cedar, and Crow across various times, all archery or primitive. I think next year is my year to finally hunt an SOA.

Good luck to Ya”ll! Should find out what area’s we will be hunting soon. Last time we hunted areas #3 and #4. We plan on doing the scouting day which I think is in Early part of October. I like to at least get familiar with the roads in area picked to hunt and learn the lay of the land some.

Nahhh no secretary here, I try to keep myself humble and handle my own registration just like the peasants do

Coosa is my secretary, every year like clockwork he reminds me to register. Now if i just had his luck drawing.LOL

It's the least I can do for you not firing me back when I was a dumbazz 20 something year old rofl

You probably needed to be fired at least a couple times but for some reason I kinda liked you. Go figure. I needed someone to keep me from going postal on folks.
