Riding a motorcycle from Mobile to as far into Alaska as he could go, twice, and making the trip back to Mobile with a broken leg didn't take him out.
Falling 30' out of a tree at the spry young age of 70 and breaking nearly every bone on the left side of his body didn't take him out.
But, over these past 18 or so months, I've watched a great man go from the man that we all thought would laugh in the face of death to withering away until he was pretty much skin and bones. This morning, with his wife, my wife and girls, and his other daughter and son, by his side, he received his reward and entered his final sleep. My father-in-law fought pancreatic cancer until he just couldn't fight it anymore. He and I had a talk back in July, when he passed the Sunday dinner grilling and seafood/chicken frying duties down to me, and he told me he was tired and didn't know how much longer he could go on fighting. It hurt almost as bad the day I got the call that my dad had died. He gave it all he had for the last few months and couldn't go any longer.
Cancer SUCKS!!!

I lost my father in-law a couple of years ago to pancreatic cancer. Not only was he my father in-law he was my friend. He was 82 and they told him possibly a year with treatment and maybe 2 months without. He chose with and and actually beat them out of an additional week. I fully understand

There has been a lot of older folks that we know that have died from cancer over the past few years. Just a damn shame that you work your entire life and when you’re in your retirement age you’re diagnosed with cancer.

My mom died from a brain tumor in 2019. I was fortunate and blessed to be there with her every day for the last 3 months and held her hand as she took her last breath. I’ve always said that I hope to meet my end with some drastic traumatic violent and swift, totally unexpected and unpredictable event. Watching someone withering away from a horrible disease (I believe) is worse than a quick tragic loss.
I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.
