A lot of times its because the stand has recently been cut and before it got cut it spent years or decades building up organic matter in the soil……and for every 1% organic matter you have there’s roughly 20-30 lbs of organic nitrogen per acre that gets mineralized and released each year
Actually now that I think about it......those skidders and cutters are gonna pretty much be tilling the topsoil which is gonna release a far greater flush of organic nitrogen than just that 20-30 lbs......You're likley getting a rapid burn of a chit ton of stored nutrients......
