Don’t hate the player, hate the game. NCAA and the super conferences are all at fault in this, way more so than Kiffin. They are the ones that turned college football into the Wild Wild West.
Player: “I know I’ve started now for 4 years after red-shirting, but remember, I broke my pinky finger, my freshman year running scout team”.
NCAA: “Sorry to hear that happened 5 yrs ago, but we believe you. Go ahead and stay and play an extra year. Wait a minute, seems I remember you missing a couple games your junior year when you had the flu and were sick as a dog. Why don’t you take a year for that too. But that’s absolutely it, we’re only going to allow you to be on the roster for 7 yrs and on the field for 6.”
NCAA: “NIL is a great idea. Let’s not put any rules in place. Get what you can and you can spend as much money as you can milk from your boosters. Let’s create a transfer portal and let kids transfer as many times as they want. That’s a great idea.”
SEC: “let’s cannibalize the best schools in the non-p-4 conferences and create a super-conference and start an arms race for TV revenues, sponsorships, and advertising. Great idea!! Show me da’ money”
Kiffin is just playing the game. If the game has no rules, then he can play it anyway he wants. SEC is claiming historical precedent, but they tossed all that out the window themselves, when greed and power began influencing every move and decision. Chickens are just coming home to roost. This^^^^^^^^^ He’s just gaming the system they created and pissed em off.

Seems to me that LSU didn't break any rules. Maybe ethical rules but not actual rules. A lot of colleges are butt hurt because they don't have the resources that LSU has. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Bear Bryant hand out scholarships like candy to get the best players during his time coaching when he won all those championships and I never hear anybody complaining about that. I'm not an LSU fan by no means, just an outsider looking in. Thats why they started putting in roster limits. Bear would get the best talent out there with scholarships and load the bench just to keep those guys from going to other schools. Some really great players didnt get much playing time because of it. However, back then getting a free ride to college was more important than playing football.

SEC isn't going to do much. Kiffen may get a game or two suspension. But LSU won't get ousted from the league. They are Sabre rattling.

LSU backed down from playing NFL players, just announced it. Yes, they filled their 105 roster without them.

Who cares if former NFL players are playing in a league that players are being paid millions, have no loyalty to a team, and are being traded like kids trading cards? If anyone is enrolled at that school they should have the right to play.

If anyone is enrolled at that school they should have the right to play. That's where we are now days. They created the problem, now they whine about the results. And that's why I don't get into CFB nearly as much as I used to.

The original intent of the rule was that when you sign a pro contract and are paid, you become a professional athlete, being paid for your services. Now that everyone in college football is being paid to play and to transfer back and forth between schools every year, for whomever offers them the most money, it’s pretty much a moot point and ridiculously hypocritical. The whole pro versus non-pro argument no longer holds any water at all. A large number of college athletes are now actually being paid 1-10x more than they would make playing under NFL rookie contracts. When the money started openly changing hands in college football, college football players became professional/paid athletes. It’s all one and the same.
Sankey, the NCAA, and the SEC are all splitting hairs. The NCAA has no rule prohibiting it which is why they are keeping their mouths shut. It’s an old SEC rule. If the SEC honestly feels this way, then they need to immediately institute a new rule, banning NIL money, payment to athletes with annything of monetary value, and a complete ban of the use of the transfer portal. Sankey and every other school whining about it are nothing more than a hypocrites. Sankey and these schools would never do any of that, because the SEC wouldn’t be able to compete and the multi-billion dollar machine the SEC has built, would stop printing money, which is the only thing that actually matters.
The SEC should’ve been fighting against all this stuff years ago when NIL and the portal were first being discussed. At the time, the SEC was riding high and dominating college football. They were egotistical enough to believe both things would only help them extend their dominance. It was a bad miscalculation and that genie is never going back into the bottle. Let OSU, Oregon, Michigan, FSU, Miami, Clemson or Indiana start using ex-pro players to whip SEC azz every weekend and you’ll see an immediate change of heart from Sankey.
