Interesting study of almost 350k drinkers in England over a 13 year period. According to this study...

Participants were categorized by daily or weekly alcohol intake and followed for a mean of more than 13 years. Compared with never or occasional drinkers, individuals with high alcohol consumption were 24% more likely to die from any cause, 36% more likely to die from cancer, and 14% more likely to die from heart disease. At low to moderate intake, important differences emerged by beverage type: wine consumption was associated with a significantly lower risk of death, whereas spirits, beer, or cider were associated with a significantly higher mortality risk at comparable intake levels. Looking specifically at cardiovascular mortality, moderate wine drinkers had a 21% lower risk of dying from cardiovascular disease, while even low intake of spirits, beer, or cider was associated with a 9% higher cardiovascular mortality risk, relative to never or occasional drinkers.

I'm not a big wine drinker, but just switching from beer to wine lowers your risk of cardiovascular mortality by an astonishing 30% over beer or spirits drinkers. And they had a 21% less risk of cardiovascular mortality than people who never drank! That's pretty significant.

Personally, I would just stop drinking, but Boho and I like having a cocktail together in the evenings before dinner. It's just something that we both enjoy together, but I judging by this study, I may at least switch to wine during the weeknights and sneak in a bourbon or a few beers on the weekends.

Thats good info, thanks for posting. My wife and I are the same; a single drink before dinner 3 or 4 days a week. Her wine, me IPA. I do enjoy red wine though, could be a good reason to change to it.

Interesting post. I wonder if the underlying study accounts for other factors (weight, activity level, income, etc.). I don't drink a ton but I tend to drink beer or spirits when I do. I have never really been able to appreciate wine.

Been wine for us before dinner for a while.
Don’t drink liquor much anymore except for an occasional rum or bourbon.
Don’t drink much beer anymore as it always fills me up.

I like a cold beer in the afternoon in the same way I like a hot cup of coffee in the morning. That said, I think I may just give alcohol up altogether. The juice really ain't worth the squeeze.

Drink Jack Daniel's. It'll put lead in your pencil and hair on your chest.

I came full circle back to Guiness. It's a good beer and amazingly light calories compared to an IPA or most standard beers.

Yep, it's essentially a "Light Beer" when you look at cal/oz. Publix usually has the 4-pack for $9 but an 8-pack for $15. That 8-pack usually lasts me a couple of weeks

See... That's one of my problems. Even though I'm a very fit and active guy, I really like bourbon, rum, vodka and tequila.

I like wine fine too, which is why I'm going to just drink it on the nights I feel like drinking, and then occasionally have hard liquor or beer.

My guess here at the heart (no pun intended) of this study's results are the long term effects of Grapes vs Grains on the human body, because that's really what it appears to boil down to.

I wonder about that too, because Boho and I are drinkers, but also very active and fit people, however 350k participants is a pretty large study group.

Our society has somehow glorified men drinking beer when in actuality it gives men's breasts and depleted testosterone.

These arthritis drugs probably kill me about as quick. Diloxitine for nerve damage. Sometimes I wander if RedWine might be better for me. I struggle with the ideal of drinking it but Paul told Timothy to take a little wine for his stomach lol

I'm trying to not drink at all during the week. My problem is a glass of wine turns into a bottle of wine, quickly. Not good for you, expensive and a lot of calories.

Not much of a beer drinker unless I'm grilling or I've done something to work up a sweat.

I do enjoy a vodka drink or two or three..

Cant drink near like I used too. Maybe a couple Coronas every once in a while and a bourbon drink here and there. If i drink more than that it makes me feel like shit real quick. Now the thc gummies are another story. Good relaxing buzz, don’t trip out on stupid stuff I have no control over, eases my back pain, no hangover, sleep like a baby and wake up at 5am every morning ready to get after it. Thats my jam. 🙂

Drink probably too much Beer. But I'm getting old, and don't really care these days.

Like a glass of Bourbon/Whiskey at night before I go to bed. Helps me sleep.

Life is a journey. Make sure and bring plenty of Beer.

My luck has been so bad lately, it could be raining pussies and I'd catch one with a dick broke off in it.
