I actually dropped off two Montana 1999 rifles last week to be threaded, and one Kimber Hunter 84M.

Got tired of leaving rifles I really like in the safe to pick up one that is threaded. All I have left that isn't threaded in a hunting rifle is my dad's Rem 742, my son's Rem 762, and my 35 Whelen Rem 700.

Probably won't do anything to the rifles from my son and my dad, but the Whelen will likely ride back to Isaac Gallagher when I pick these up. It has been a real game changer for me. We now have 2 Liberty integral (7mm-08 and 308), 2 titanium Scythe Ti, and two Hybrid 46 in addition to 5 assorted rimfire suppressors.

They've become more attractive to buyers in the past few years because the wait times for getting them cleared by the ATF has gone from 9-18 months to under two weeks in most cases, and under a month in almost all cases. They got even more popular when folks began saving $200 on not having to buy tax stamps. Their popularity is going to go through the roof if this non-NFA item thing sticks.

But, the 4 points that UncleHuck stated above are facts...there is less recoil, there is less muzzle blast, there is less sound, and there is less muzzle rise...all of which enhance accuracy.

Can point of impact change from shooting unsuppressed to shooting suppressed on the same rifle? Sure. But, most suppressed shooters don't ever plan on shooting unsupressed again. My rifles that I shoot suppressed are all "set and forget", and I've not experienced ANY of them getting less accurate when adding a suppressor...only more accurate, due to the reasons UH stated above.

That said....buy one, or don't buy one. Everyone has their reasons.
Exactly. NOT a fad. The short wait period that occurred a couple years ago is what finally got me to buy one. After using it, I realized I had been an idot for not getting one sooner.

Uncle Huck is correct on everything he said. Yes, its still loud with full loads, but suppressors do make a big difference in the decibels, but if shooting subsonic rounds the sound is so low you can hear the bullet hit a paper target at 50 yards.

From now on, every new rifle I get will be set up for suppression.

I fully understand that
Never thought much of them besides all the hassle.

My can I bought last fall was $600 for my AR. Inconel, 3D printed ridgeback rhino x. It’s a small can and super quiet. I don’t wear hearing protection when in shoot it. The bullets impacting steel at 50-80 yard is much louder.

If I still cared about deer hunting each rifle would be wearing one. I’d have guns in calibers conducive to short barrels and accuracy.

Some cans are designed for rapid fire and long shot strings and others are more inclined for single shots.

The gunsmith I use charges me $125. No clue if that's his regular price or if I get a discount for the amount of work he does for us.

Stone Arms in Mobile will start doing suppressors on a form 4473 only starting Monday the 31st.

Anybody seen any other local gun shops doing this?

After talking to a friend in the business
He’s like no way right now with the possible consequences much less is the can keeps being passers along and can’t be found. Quarter of million fine and 10 years prison. Said he’ll wait for further clarification. Their lawyer says no go for now.

What's the benefit to spending lots of $ for these? A little noise don't bother me. Could be beneficial for poachers.

Took my Styer .270 to Precision Tactical on Hwy 280. since the barrel is ss and tapers as much as it does, they sent my gun to FL to get threaded and an adapter.
Cost was $150 total. I got it back in a month.

James they were advertising this in their FB last night. Well Saturday night anyway. One correction/addition was you had to be a GOA member but they would take the email receipt from GOA as proof of membership.

I've noticed several of the shops are requiring GOA membership. Anybody know what's up with that?

You’re in country let it rip. Heck the shooting range isn’t an 1/8 of a mile from you and I hear them all the time when they have several people shooting
