Anyone have any experience loading for a rifle. Plan on having one before long.

I shoot 45 colt boolits cast from wheelweight lead (454190 mold) powder coated & sized @255 gr round nose flat point…and stuffed on top of 8grains of Unique. Good accuracy on several rifles, and they give steel targets a WHUMP with authority! But please check powder and boolit recommendations from printed loading manuals. I do put a light crimp on ALL of my 45 Colt loads, in case I shoot them from a tubular magazine rifle.

Hope this helps.

I've only loaded 45 Colt for a revolver but have loaded many 44 Mag rounds with different powders for rifle and handgun use. If you want speed out of the rifle (or revolver), I'll state the obvious, go with slow burning "magnum" pistol powders. H110, IMR 4227, AA #9, 2400, etc will give you a big velocity boost in a longer barrel. A 400 FPS bump from a 5" revolver to a 16" carbine with identical loads is common.

Talk about a "whump", you ought to hear this 45 bullet hit a cardboard backer. It sounds like somebody beating the dust out of a rug with a tennis racket! These are loaded for a 45 Auto Rim but the same bullet will work in a 45 Colt. Not sure they would feed in a lever gun.

In a rifle, Accurate #7 will make a 45 Colt come alive. Pretty close to 2400 if you can't find any of that and it doesn't need mag primers. Accurate #5 is in the Unique range if you can't fine that either.
