I tried Kent Rollin's coffee marinade trick on these because I knew they wouldn't be that tender. It kind of worked, but they still could have been more tender, perhaps I should have marinated them overnight. I only marinated them for about 5 hours. They were still delicious.

Boho was tired when she got back home. She had been at her cousin's house over on Sand Mountain helping her and another cousin get the place all fixed up for the big family reunion today so I was on dinner prep. She got home, we made us some cocktails and got out on the back deck and enjoyed the remains of the day. We put some Big Head Todd on the stereo for a while and then switched over to listen to a live YouTube concert by The Mavericks. Those boys are good. They are kinda like ZZ Top, Los Lobos and Dwight Yoakam all had a baby together.

Lately my "go to" for back porch unwinding on the creek has been a playlist on Prime called "The Rat Pack Cocktail Party". Maybe I'm just getting old but that music down low with the sound of the creek just puts me in a very happy place. I keep telling my wife I was born a few decades late. grin

The true mark of a man is not how he conducts himself during times of prosperity, but how he conducts himself during times of adversity.

That's us too. We love just the quiet up here on the mountain, but sometimes in the evenings when we have a few adult beverages, it's nice to jam out a little.

Big Head Todd is damn good. Check out their cover of the 70's pop hit by Looking Glass called "Brandi". Best version of that song I have ever heard.

I've always loved The Mavericks. They broke up for a while and the lead singer, who's one of the best lead singers I have ever heard, when on a solo career, but they must be back together now. They are a really big band with a nice horn section.

Lead singer of the Mavericks passed away in December 2025.😢
We went to a concert a long time ago that had the Mavericks, Jerry Lee Lewis and Tammy Wynette.
That’s was some concert.
