Any of ya’ll ever loaded 300 win mag for Steyr Pro Hunter with a can?
Evidently there were very few Steyr Pro Hunter 2’s sold in the US…and even less info out there. So Im asking for any advice on any of the Steyr Pro Hunter models.
I’ve collected Barnes TTSX 110’s, 120, 130, just because, and in other brands from 150’s-208’s. I won’t use SMK’s for hunting anymore after I trailed a nice deer for a couple days that a 220gr SMK did a punch through…with guesstimated zero expansion. I’ve seen the Barnes bullets do great in 300 BO & .308.
Main reason I’m asking, 300 Win’s eat a bunch of powder up quickly!…and would dig any advice for a pet weight/powder?

How long is the barrel? My prohunter barrel was too thin to cut and thread til down to about 20 inches and I didn't want to give up that much velocity. Mine liked 150 to 165 grain bullets generally and H1000 and RL19 for powders. Standard 25.4 inch factory barrel.
My favorite loads were
85 grains H1000. 150gr fail safe. Fed 215 primer. 3250fps.
84 grains H1000. 168gr ballistic silvertip. F215. 3100 fps.
75.6 grains RL19. 150gr Hornady boat tail spire point. F215. 3200 fps.

110 gr TTSX, max RL17 @ 4000fps out of a 26" barrel
Ive also got a bunch of 130 gr TTSX loaded up with the same that are also lightning bolts & accurate.
Both good 400 yard beanfield/clearcut hunting loads.

I couldn’t touch the Hornady Superperformance in the 180 SST. Getting almost 3300fps out of the box load so I just don’t load for that round because it shoots amazingly out of my Steyr.
Hunting brings out the worst in people.

Good stuff, and thank you.
It’s still new in the box, and does have the long factory threaded barrel.
I’ll let ya’ll know how it does when I get a chance to load some up (or if I find some Superformance 180 SST’s).
