I watched a tractor trailer do that exact thing in the early 90's between the BJCC and Airport at the north Birmingham area of 20/59 S. I was on my motorcycle and at his 8 o'clock a few lanes over. When it hit, it took part of the overpass and the very large I-Beam he was carrying across multiple lanes. I felt it, saw it, gunned it and was past before it shut things down. Scared the living hell out of me and miraculously, no major injuries.

Two people were injured, one critically, after a County Road 87 bridge over Interstate 65 was struck by a large piece of equipment being transported Tuesday, causing significant damage and a partial collapse, according to authorities.

That's going to take a while to fix.

I think we will be taking 231 down to Montgomery and getting on I-65 there for a while. It's a nicer drive anyway.

I65 is currently open in both directions; but may want to monitor for future repair work

I work off hwy 87 closer to 31 than 65. It normally takes me 15 or so minutes to get home, but took me an hour and 15 minutes yesterday. It took me 40 minutes to go 1 mile.

Traffic around here was already bad, but yesterday was on a whole other level. Hopefully, with them opening back up 65 it will help some, but that bridge being closed affects a lot of people. Also, they were scheduled to widen the bridge soon, I wish they would just go ahead and do it while it is shut down, but knowing AL they will spend 3 months patching it up, then close it next summer in time for beach traffic.

Hopefully the injured parties recoup quickly.

I heard it was Chilton contractors who hit the bridge, not sure if that is true or not, but whoever it was should be paying a lot of money soon.

I have loaded and boomed down heavy equipment many times. Always lower the Boom down and the stick all the way in. How in the heck did he have that thing loaded to hit something that high? Had to have the boom up. IDOT!

Exactly what I said. The truck driver was either extremely incompetent or extremely negligent. No other explanation is accepted.

I hate making a good first impression. There’s no way I can keep that shit up.
