The president’s relatives and their business associates have won preliminary approval to start one, riding a wave that doesn’t come around often: It’s now easier than at any time in almost 20 years to get a national bank charter, thanks to the Trump administration’s deregulation push.

Federal bank charters are not hard to get. Never have been. I know several guys that have put together groups and started private banks with federal charters over the years. Only two types of charters. Federal and state. Fed is only slightly harder to get than state due to additional regulatory requirements. This is one big nothing burger. But hey, it sounds like something bad for Trumps family so let’s repeat it for those not smart enough to know that it isn’t.

Folks on Wall Street are getting pretty concerned about the nepotism in this administration. Its looking like the Bush and Biden way of doing things.

Started my career out of college in banking. Folks can get a charter but harder to keep them. I was also a federal bank examiner back when banks were failing left and right. Not sure why anyone would want to start a bank given what I’ve seen over the years.

Inflation always shows strongest in the markets first. This bank thing though looks like a nothing burger money flipping service for the family anyway. It might have been smarter to just to declare a family office private equity house, like a lot of the old money New York folks do.
