Ordered a rifle from Bass Pro online shipped to a Bass Pro: Here are the steps to get the rifle.
1) Order and pay for rifle.
2) Rifle will ship to store
3) Rifle arrives at store
4) Have to go to store to fill out paperwork (this STARTS the cool down period wait clock; the county doesn't define when the clock starts, but bass pro leans on the conservative side with when the clock starts)
5) After 5 business days (on day 6, not including weekends) you can pick up your hunting rifle

You can do it faster with a CC, but you don't need a CC in FL so most people don't, or if you trade in a firearm (but Bass pro isn't in the trade in business).

Can't you just shop somewhere else?

So if this is a known county level ordinance, why don’t you go just one county over?

This seems incredibly simple or am I missing something.

That is a very anti-Florida and anti-American policy they have there. I assume people have filed complaints and taken legal action to get that policy reversed?

If there was a bass pro shop or another shop with the same deal. Still it would be a 3 day wait, per the state regulation. Still would need 2 trips with longer drives.

I bought my grandson a Golden Boy at BP because I had a Cabelas card and my wife spends enough money to run up points on it.

Told the guy at counter I wanted it.
He fumble with IPad a few minutes.
Hands me IPad to do forms. I hate doing it that way.
I’m done he looks it over.
Takes rife out of box and start writing down serial number and checking tag.
Another guy come from back and check numbers and tags.
Another guy comes out hands me a paper about gun safety and talk.
I tell first guy that guy giving safety talk shouldn’t point gun at me.
Safety guy scoffed and went back to store room in a huff.
Store manager lady showed up to make sure serial number recorded right.
Paid for it.

Next Henry I bought at Vann’s.
Exchanged pleasantries with Nathan while filling out form
Handed the lady at the cash register cash.
Got it truck with it and went home.

What AU338 said.

Last one I bought from BPS was like that. Everything had to be checked in triplicate, and they were too busy playing grabass with each other to do it in a reasonable time frame. Spent over an hour there, just for them to tell me the system was backed up and I was waitlisted.

I reckon I'm spoiled with Sand Mountain Pawn. I have them to receive firearms that I find online and occasionally buy directly from them and it's easy. Walk in, fill out the 4473, hand over my CC permit to be copied, pay the person at the register and walk out. No waiting for the 4473 to clear.

Get the F out of the BATFE. The F is guaranteed by the US Constitution. Those other letters are not.

I believe I'd have told the Store Manager Lady the "gun safety" guy pointed it at me and that's why my dollars were going to Vann's instead of Cabela's-BPS.

I know it was a personal purchase and you wanted-needed it right then, but that lack of common sense and his huffy demeanor is BS.

I just go to Birmingham Pistol Wholesale. Show my CCW and DL, fill out the form 4473, pay the bill and walk out the door. If I ship something, I send it to Inverness Outdoors.

It's gotten to the point I am fine paying more, to have less hassle. But BPW is usually less than other places.

If you have a concealed weapons license in FL you leave with it the same day. No waiting period. Of course you might wait 2-3 hours in the store waiting for them to get FCIC check back. Tampa is likely a little far for you or I’d suggest you visit my gun store client 75th Bunker and Morgan Firearms in North Naples FL. Owner has great selection and customer service oriented.

I’ve bought a few guns from them over the years. But during the ammo shortage they were prison raping people. I’ve had good experiences at Vans Exile Academy Larry’s on 565. Only bad experience was at Huntsville BP. Sent my son to pickup up a rifle for me at the one in Huntsville. He told he was getting it for me as a present and they still wouldn’t let him purchase it. I had to get one the next day at Leeds BP. Same routine as described but I’ve got a few from them. Was buying a shotgun a rural king Huntsville one, everything was done brought the manger out to finalize it. He was calling off the serial number to me. I was looking at the box and told him it was incorrect. They would not sell it to me. They went back to their gun room looking for the box that matched the gun and couldn’t find it. I had to walk without it. Last gun I purchased was at academy online as they were the best price. Had it delivered to the Cullman store. I filled out the paperwork on the iPad and handed back as I told the guy I was going to look around as I waited. I mage about 3 steps and thought he said you’re good. Turning around and asked if I heard right and he said yes you’re good. Quickest turnaround, usually mine is 5 mins or under

I will tell you why I like BPW. I went in a long time ago, and purchased an M&P Sport. Filled out the paperwork, took the box out and stuck it behind the seat of the truck and off to work. Got home that night brought it in the house, and opened the box, and I was looking at a totally different rifle. It was an M&P alright, it was just the magpul edition, which was considerably more expensive. Next day I called Johnny ( I think ) the owner, he says bring it back and we will figure out what to do. I get down there, and it looks like there was going to be alot of paperwork to correct the mistake. I asked him what was the price difference. He says, hold on a minute, goes and pulls his invoice where he bought it, shows it to me, and sold it to me for his cost plus shipping, because I was honest he said.

Saved me time and paperwork, and I walked out with a much nicer gun. Yeah I could have just kept my mouth shut, but that isn't the right thing to do.

Now the thing sits in my safe collecting dust!! LOL!!

I guess laws have changed because about 19 years ago I walked in Bass Pro in Orlando to buy my son his first hunting rifle. Picked out a NEF .243. Did a little paperwork and walked out with the rifle about 30 minutes later. I recall the guy noted that I lived in an adjoining state so that must have been significant. Now if I knew how to post pictures, I'd show a couple of deer he killed with that thing.

One of the best moves I made and I recommend it to anyone with a kid, is to make them shoot a single shot, at least to start. When they know they only have one chance they become much better shooters. Son is 26 now and I try to take him with me when I sight in scopes. He does the shooting because he is just better at it than me. I know I did one thing right in raising him. He can shoot and hunt. If the Apocalypse comes and we have to hunt, fish and garden to eat, he and his girlfriend will be alright.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

Johnny Walker is the owner; we went to high school and rode dirt bikes together way back. He had lunch with our monthly high school group gathering recently. He has done well.
