I'm getting the 708 threaded because I'm not gonna leave it in the safe because I can't use a suppressor on it. And it will have to be pried out of my cold dead hand before I sell it. I'll be threading my sons Abolt 270 also. His rifle and mine have both be Cerrakoted to match.

I am thinking I will call and have both barrels cut at 20"

Seriously -

If you are not using the 7mm-08 for LONG distance hunting, cut to 16.5" and ENJOY portability. Barnes 120 TTSX is rated at 3005 FPS muzzle, and 2284 FPS at 300 yards.

Assume that's a 24" barrel. Most cartridges lose 25 FPS or less per inch of barrel cut. Do you really think that 2805 FPS muzzle/2084 FPS at 300 is going to change the killing power?

How many people have you heard about killing deer with 300 BLK? 110 grain 300 BLK is 2285 FPS muzzle, 1575 at 300 yards with a 110 grain bullet with a 16" barrel, and most folks are shooting it shorter than 16".

If the regs were different, my 7mm-08 would be a 12" for most of the hunting I do. If I need range and horsepower, there are other calibers here.

I would never cripple a 264 Win Mag with a short barrel, but the 308 Win and 7x57 based cartridges don't suffer from short barrels. We have a 257 Roberts here that will deliver 2900 FPS with 110 grain Nosler Partition, from an 18" barrel.

Same with me.

I love shooting suppressed but I'm not going to cut down and thread the barrel of a pre 64 M70, or any of my other vintage rifles.

Agreed I'm not going to cut or thread my Marlin 1894 44Mag. I absolutely love shooting it and hunting with it. But it's just not something I'm going to change the "Character" of shooting it.

If you love shooting the Marlin 1894 now, wait until you shoot one with a suppressor. One of those was likely the first factory rifle that I had threaded.

I have not modified anything that was a collector gun, but we have had a dozen or more threaded and don't regret any of them, including a couple of Montana rifles, a Kimber, one that was barreled by Jarrett, and several Tikka builds.

Well I made the call early this morning to get both barrels the same at 20". I got a call this afternoon that they were ready for me to pick up. So I'll get them put all together this week and we will see how it goes

My Marlin/Ruger 1894SBL is factory threaded. I want a HuxWrx Flow 45 for it. Right now they are on backorder. Another, pricier choice would be the Thunderbeast Flow 45, but they are even harder to find.

Local smith here in town. He charges $100 to cut and thread. Send me a PM and I can get you his name and number
