Just a FYI...The Phenix City Little League all-star team plays today on Espn, at 2 o'clock, in their opening game of the LLWS. They play the Northwest Region representative, Tacoma Washington. The last time Alabama had a team in the LLWS was in 1999... Remarkably, that team was also from Phenix City. The 99 squad made a historic run all the way to the international championship game before losing to Hirakata, Japan. It's been a long time coming and I'm hoping they kick some butt...

Best of luck to the Phenix City kids. They have a great tradition over there, but if anyone wonders why AL is rarely represented in the LLWS the truth is that very few of the youth baseball programs in AL participate in the Little League program. Most are in the Dixie Youth programs. If those programs participated in LL you'd see teams from strong areas like Hartselle, Selma, East Montgomery, et.al. in the mix.
Will be watching at 2 to see the lovely young lady humble some boys. I watched them in the Regionals some and she is the real deal. Fear the Bow!
Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

The assistant coach of the Phenix City team played on the 99 team, pitched some MLB also. His daughter is pitcher and shortstop, dad taught her the curve ball. His brother is head coach, and there is another Rasmus playing on the team.

Both US games were great today.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
My phone screen does not always work right, usually a lot of misspelled words....

Little league needs to get with the times. 12 year olds (some are 13 now) playing on 60’ bags with no leads and pitching from the same distance as 9 year olds is a joke. This is one reason why the talent level in LL is so sub par.

BTW, the majority of those teams if not all , play travel ball too, but they aren't elite teams. People who are amazed at how good the LL World Series teams are would be shocked if they saw the top elite 12u Majors teams in action. Glad to see Alabama bounce back. They were tight the other day in game one.

LL needs to be canned. All of those kids play travel ball (real baseball) and are using big barreled bats.

I saw a couple kids (2 or maybe 3) in that game that would be capable 12u Majors travel ball players. Go to East Cobb in Atlanta one weekend when they have a big tournament running and watch those 12u Majors teams play. Huge difference in pitching, and you’re not going to see multiple dropped fly balls, multiple errant throws, multiple routine ground balls getting kicked around and missed, and they dang sure aren’t playing on a girls softball field.

I was glad to see Alabama play with some confidence and start hitting the ball... Playing thru the losers bracket is gonna be a tough road but they got some kids that can play, I'm pulling for them...

I figure LL along with some of the other countries that participate in it do they best they can with it...I mean, it is 12 and under and at that age we need them doing something right? besides staring at their phone....

The best all star team our area ever fielded finished runner up at the Babe Ruth 13u World Series to California. Really good bunch of ball players and dominated that season. I coached it. We had maybe two kids that may have even made the Banditos Black major roster that year (the size, maturity, and early skills development differential is crazy).

There's 8U coach pitch teams that qualify for your last sentence , except they aren't kid pitching yet. In short LL is not getting kids ready for the big field. Those 12 yo will most likely be 13 and 7th grade ( Jr High) next year and transitioning to the big field, that's what separates the men from the boys.
