People smalling down because of their age, has nothing to do with the market or prices. As i stated it’s a complex issue, but the public is definitely not getting the whole story. Just the narrative your king wants you have! Since you went there and tried to be a little snarky I’ll return the favor. The guy I said was centralizing and downsizing. Hell have cows til the day he dies the one spot where he’s cutting hay and running cattle. He’s got a 100 head or so on that pasture. Two other pastures he may or may not still have cause he keeps selling and buying back that one tract has about 20 head on it. He didn’t have it last time talked to him. However he bought it back since. The third pasture has 35 or so head on it. He’s finishing out 15-25 calves at time along with hogs. You never did answer how many head you’re running

Another little tidbit
A guy I know was running about a 100 head of mutts. Got tired of and Calle the sell barn to come get em.
They left 15-20 for his nephew to work but took the rest.
For y’all worried about inspection well one of those cows was sick and had a stillborn still in her. They pulled it and shot her full of antibiotics and steroids. Sent her across the sale barn to the slaughter along with most of the older ones. She was probably slaughtered that day or the next from what he said.
Does that meet procedure??? I’ve been told that’s really not out of the norm. Is it. I don’t now.
This was about 10-12 years ago.

It will give them some vision to rebuild their herds by driving demand down. Kind of like printing helps a tree. It hurts to begin with but better for them in the long run. They also said that the savings may never reach the consumer. Grocery stores and meat packing facilities may absorb the cheaper beef as profit instead of passing savings on down the line. Who knows. Economics are complex things.

No one is getting in the business now that’s not already in or my BIL. And I’m still not convinced he’s gonna and to be quite frank. He just wants to and losing money doesn’t scare him
Literally every cattleman I’ve talked to in the last several years have kept saying you will be getting in at the top of the market something has gotta give. He has 35 acres so he will make absolutely zero difference other than probably getting killed by a mad cow over her calf. He’s 69 years old and remembers the day he helped granddaddy on his big dairy farm.
I’ve explored stockers and every avenue that may make money and everyone of them are don’t. Not enough acreage to make it work. Cow calf is the only option or raise breeder bulls. Still not gonna cover cost more than likely
BIL already has his own bailer, cutter and rake and appear to be in decent shape. He’s got 30 bales or so and his pasture has been planted but will need to be redone. Next comes fence and pond along with big pole shed.
I’m just along for the ride and talked to several folks in the process. Doesn’t hurt to know several vets and guys that’s raised cows and willing to help with questions.
