The “move” is simple to understand- the majority of voters are beef consumers, not producers. Cheaper beef equals less things for folks to complain about.

The “messaging” missed the mark, as it clearly doesn’t help American ranchers.

In no time at all the USDA will have to place signs where this “mystery meat” is sold telling its country of origin just like restaurants must do with fish.


Winner Winner-Chicken Dinner!!! We are a small cattle operation and this move will knock us back. I know we complain of high prices on food/beef in particular, but take this week for example. We baled 91 rolls of hay. In the process we blew a cylinder on the baler-250 bucks. Last bale a bearing goes out on top of the rollers. Bearing probably be around 100 bucks and an all day process to remove and replace bearing. One 2.5 gallon of Hydralic oil since the blown cylinder blew it out-64 bucks. Then throw in the diesel it took to cut, rake, bale, and then move to the barn. Also count the gas and diesel in the trucks that moved all the hay to the barn. Now you tell me we are going to be flooded with beef I wouldn’t pee on??? Most Americans are simply sheep waiting for the slaughter. Rant complete.

I was about to type the same thing. Expect more of this as the election gets closer. Trump is going to pull every lever he can to keep prices down until after the votes are counted. Unfortunately it’s like pushing a beach ball underwater. The further and harder you push, the faster and harder it’s going to come back up.

I understand trying to supplement our meat from somewhere else so that ranchera can keep some of the breed stock to increase the herd numbers but it's definitely gonna hurt the ranchers at the same time but honestly does anyone else have a better plan to increase the herd numbers? And that's a real question. I dont like this plan But how else can Ranchers increase the herd numbers? It's hard to do when calves are bringing $3K plus

If the Prime Act were passed it would prevent these ridiculous actions. The only problem is that Thomas Massie proposed the Prime Act so the Trump administration is automatically against it. He is against anything Massie proposes even though it makes perfect sense and will make things more affordable and produce more American beef without Socialism.

I'm not sure how I feel about exempting food producers from health and safety inspections, though.

They still have their state health department standard inspections.

Livestock is called that for a reason. They are walking stock markets. Stocks falls all the time, if a farmer has been in it very long, this will not effect near as much as the fuss it’s bringing. Sure they’ll lose some money, but money is still to be made on cattle. Beef prices have went up and down for years. Feed costed us $285 a ton this year. We sold steers at 720wt $3.52 a pound. In 2020 feed prices was $310 a ton and calves sold for $1.33 at 725wt. I for one am not upset prices are falling off some. Maybe my daughter can afford to buy her some cows in the future. Cattle and land prices right now, are pricing tomorrow’s generation out. There is no way a person can buy 40 acres of pasture land and 20 head of cows to go on it, and expect them cows to pay for the land. Just no way. Bring beef prices down and the rest will follow with it. Fencing, equipment, land etc etc. or at least that’s my hope. But crying over cattle prices after a person voluntarily got in the cattle business is crazy to me. Cows been record high for 2 years, if getting rich was the end game, then folks should have sold out. I farm cause it’s who I am. This price drop, just make it somewhere else is what I say. Just part of the game.

Maybe it’ll bring down grocery store prices for the American public as well. I don’t buy much beef cause of the price. Deer, fish makes up 75% of my groceries. Porck and chicken gets the rest for the most part. End of day, don’t really matter what none of us think, we can’t change it. I’m just thankful to get to do what I do at the end of the day.

This does nothing to make America great again! The American beef industry has been the standard of the world beef industry forever. It has failed under trump, because of his policy. If your gonna hold the rest of them to this standard hold this ass clown to it! As for me and several on here, we got plenty of top quality great tasting nutritious beef! And we know where ot comes from, and it costs way less than grocery store beef! Thank you for those of you who buy from me!

Cowboy and others, you’re in the cattle business. Why are the overall US cattle herd numbers so far down that there is not enough US supply to service US needs, without “shortages” and sky high prices?

Because the price has been down for so long, alot of people.got out of it.

So it’s not the result of cattle prices peaking, particularly calves,to all time highs in 2015 and 2016 and a lot of farmers selling off their herds and cashing out, while the market was outrageously high?
