Question for the minds. How often do yall see a mature buck move consistently up to 2mi per day during the summer across habitat that is in all practical purposes the exact same?
Been watching one deer for the last three weeks. As the crow flies it’s not uncommon for him to get picked up on multiple cameras spread over 1.5mi almost straight line of timber.
Maybe it’s just his personality, idk. But seems like more often than not, I have seen deer not move that far over the summer vs other times of the year.

They are all individuals. I see it all the time. Some deer have smaller ranges and others have extreme ranges. Most fall in the middle. I’ve got one that’s traveling over a mile in just a couple hours on camera at the moment and other that’ll stay in one field all night without leaving.

We put gps trackers on two spikes two summers ago and they stay within about the same diameter you mention if you drew a circle around it. That obviously expands significantly up to and including the rut.

My curiosity is where my local bucks go to “summer.” With the rare exception of a very young buck once or twice on camera I don’t see bucks at all from March to early September. They show up like clockwork when the swamp chestnut oaks start dropping and will be on camera steadily, if mostly at night, right through the end of the season. Might catch one or two at the start of turkey season then nothing.

My curiosity is where my local bucks go to “summer.” I think the older does get territorial in claiming fawning cover and it forces dispersing yearling bucks to take up residence in other areas this time of year.....Those areas become their normal summer home range for the next summer and the next as long as there's food resources there.....They dont require the same type/quantity of cover as a fawn

I don’t use corn/bait so all my cameras are on travel pinch points. Right now in peak summer I get 10% or less of the photos I will get in December. They just don’t move much in heat and with so much quality food available right where they bed. Summer cameras give me very little useful information that will translate to fall/winter hunting season.
