That is also why there will not be a ground invasion of Iran. Plus a geographical impossibility - no staging area in the region and the country’s border topography is like a fortress. By sea is also out of the question for a number of reasons. We are going to take the L on this one. It’s okay, we are used to it. Thanks Donald…

What’s very irritating about Iranian drone technology is they got some of it from backward engineering a Lockheed Martin RQ-170 the CIA lost control of causing it to land in Iran.

I try to keep up on military news and tech, especially with regards to US forces and I fear we are way behind Russia and China in drone technology, warfighting application and training our troops to use them effectively in combat and defend against them. I think we rely too much on expensive "super weapons" and are too overconfident in our perceived "superior technology." Ukraine and the US just did a mock battle recently, Ukraine absolutely slaughtered the US forces. The Defeat: The defensive position was reinforced by Ukrainian drone operators from the 412th "Nemesis" Regiment of Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces. The battle-hardened Ukrainian pilots used reconnaissance drones to immediately spot the heavy U.S. M1A2 Abrams tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, which gave away their positions by kicking up heavy dust. Did it include our UAS's?[/quote] We should always take those kinds of reports with a grain of salt. Often, these war games are not apples to apples. They are hamstringing one side or the other trying to gleen specific information that will help down the road. For instance, Europeans like to crow that the typhoon beat the f22. And it did. When the F22 was required to fight with so many limitation, it wasn't really fighting as an f22 at all. They had to handicap the f22 very heavily to give the typhoon a chance. It's happened a bunch of times and will happen again and again. I've never understood why so many latch on to shit like that and take it for the gospel. It's like they want someone to better than the US at anything and everything. I'm not sticking my head in the sand, we aren't perfect, but when it comes to war, there are none better, including Ukraine. So take it with a grain of salt. We don't know the limitations or parameters the US troops were fighting under, nor those of the UK military. I can promise you one thing. Whatever lessons were taken from that exercise by the US, will severely change the outcome in real battle.
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

...I can promise you one thing. Whatever lessons were taken from that exercise by the US, will severely change the outcome in real battle. Well... that is certainly everyone's hope. Better to lose on the practice field, learn valuable lessons from the defeat and use them to win on the actual battle field. Patton, who was not at the Battle of Kasserine Pass, learned a lot of valuable lessons from the butt kicking the American forces took there. He adapted his tactics and became a force for the Germans to reckoned with.

The US has been flying, using, and testing drones for the last 40 yrs, if not longer. I'd be really really shocked if the US doesnt already have in our arsenal, a way to completely incapacitate drones in battlefield conditions. I'd also be very surprised, that if we do have it, that we would ever let anyone else in the world know that we do. It, like a whole lot of other weapon systems, is not something that we are going to share, with anyone. Please take a second to remember that all these super expensive "precision/smart" weapons being currently used in Iran, were developed and tested back in the mid 80s. Do you think that all of our top weapons engineers have just been sitting around twiddling their thumbs for the past 30-40 yrs and not paying attention? Most would be shocked at the weapons capabilities within our arsenal, that have never seen the light of day and will not see that light, until they are actually needed.
