I check myself when I begin to think that "Christians" have the moral high ground over anyone. I have been to many different countries, I have worked with lots of people in engineering, Muslims, Hindus, Chinese atheists and I have met many of those people. Many I have befriended and I have I felt I could always count on them to "do the right thing" regardless of their religious or non-religious affiliation.
Our youngest Irish Jr. is an agnostic, meaning he's not an atheist, but he is a seeker for the truth and just hasn't settled on it yet. All our other children are Christians and yet he is the one we can always count on to do the right thing. His current girlfriend and probably soon to be our daughter in law is Chinese. Born and raised under Communism and never exposed to Western Style Christianity like all of us have, so she is an Atheist from birth. She is an extremely kind, loving an very moral person. I will welcome her into our family when and if that time comes.
On the other hand I have met lots of "Christians" in my lifetime, including some very religious "Christians" who have been some of the worst people I have ever known. People that had some of the worst situational ethics you could ever imagine. Perhaps some Christians think they get a pass and they can do the wrong thing when the situation suits them because they are forgiven.
Christianity has no monopoly on morality. What we have is Grace, Mercy and Forgiveness through faith and acceptance in God's Grace through Jesus Christ's ultimate sacrifice. That's what we need to understand... God asks us to be humble in our faith.
Micah 6:8 "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God"
James 4:6 and 1 Peter 5:5 both quote Proverbs 3:34 to share the exact same core truth: "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." Both New Testament passages use this shared Old Testament principle to teach that pride invites God's resistance, while humility opens the door to His unearned favor and help. If we look back, some of the people who shaped and wrote the Bible had their faults and would be judged as horrible people. David committed adultery and had a man killed to cover it up, yet he is referred to as being a man after God's own heart. Solomon lived an extravagant life and messed around with thousands of women but is known as one of the wisest men to live and wrote Proverbs. Paul, to put it bluntly, was a murderer of Christians but he accounts for 13 books of the New Testament. David is probably my favorite character in the Bible when it comes to biblical stories. I love him because he was such a flawed character, but he loved God probably as much as anyone in the Bible ever did and God rewarded him for his love. A lot of lying and immorality when on the the Old Testament.

Irish just because a person says he is a Christian does not make them one. The Bible says you will become a new creature. Not perfect but striving to be. I also have had experiences working for people claiming to be Christians. As I heard a pastor say one time your life and your checkbook will tell where your heart is. Also there is a difference in not being a Christian and being an Antichrist not the but a. I will stop there because these discussions always go off the rail. Jesus is the high ground. Not any man and surely not Mohamed I didn't just become a Christian yesterday brother. I certainly know the difference. You apparently are implying that if a Christian sins then they aren't really a Christian and I don't believe that's true. There are a lot of people who are ACTUAL Christians who can and do bad stuff after they have been saved. Regardless... My point still stands. Christianity has no monopoly on morality. Just go read the Old Testament. The Good Samaritan was NOT a Christian, yet he did the right thing.

No sir you took offense to something I did not mean. And there was no implying that if a Christian sins they are not a Christian because my I am full of sin.The term I used was not perfect but striving to be. We will never be perfect but if our sins don't convict us we are not saved. Lighten up on my reply . I told you it would go sideways because things always do. I have read your testimony before and I am not an idiot but Jesus is the standard not Muslims or blacks or any other group

I was just trying to clarify my stance on it and trying to understand your stance on it. When someone says they are a Christianto me, I try to rely on guidance from the Holy Spirit, who I know lives in me, for guidance and discernment to see that person for who they really are. I even know people who are seekers for God, who aren't Christians, but I can tell they have that spirit of love and openness about them. They have that countenance and you get this strong feeling that God has a plan for them at some point if they would open their hearts to Him.

That is a good point but a person like that can be one of the hardest for God to reach. The Pharisees counted on their own self righteousness and rejected Jesus. I don't understand a lot of stuff but my faith is in Jesus . There is one mediator between God and man and Jesus is it. I got a good friend that floored me in Sunday school because he is a Calvinist. I can't believe that way because the Bible says whosoever will can come. Jeremiah says he knew us in the womb. I believe he knows where we will sin before we even do it because of free will. I am sorry we had that misunderstanding I know I have a lot to account for . But I also believe by a persons works you will know them.

The people I'm talking about are the polar opposite of the Pharisees. They are not religious people hung up on religious rules, but rather kind, loving, moral seekers of the truth.

I understand what you are saying but without salvation they are doomed. Sometimes those people are harder to reach. I know they are good people got some in my own family. What happens to them if they don't accept Jesus?

Unfortunately they will perish just like everyone who has not accepted Christ as their savior.

Kyles, striving to be sinless can be a dangerous mindset in the life of a believer. I don’t think the Bible is talking about being sinless or striving to be sinless when it talks about what is perfect. Maybe dive into the original Greek word used in Matthew 5 and Philippians 3 that is translated to the word perfect.
In my opinion, striving for perfection or striving to be sinless is a road full of misery, not joy.

Pwyse I agree with you. I said my life is full of sin and I admit it. My point was that the Holy Spirit will convict you of sin if you have the Holy Spirit in your life . What did Paul say about should he sin more so grace would abound. The blood of Jesus covers all sins since it was shed. I know I could do better than I do and that makes me ashamed of myself. Do you get what I was trying to say?
