12 years old, Dec 22, 1976. Spike on a deer drive with a H&R 16 ga single shot built in 1939. Several Uncles had killed first deer with it. The two walker hounds running it were litter mates, Donna and Debbie. Still have the little spikes.

Hope you still have that shotgun too!

I was 12 and it was 1990. We were running dogs on the first weekend of the season in Florida. I shot him 1 time with a 16 gauge Winchester model 12 shotgun. He was a 7 point.

1983. IP land in Blaydon Springs. I’d seen a couple does the whole season but no horns until a three inch quailman special ran by on a man drive.

I think I was 9. We hunted in a dog club in Coosa County. All the kids would play around camp and hunt tree rats while the old timers planned the hunt. They told us to load up in the back of one of the trucks. They took us a mile or 2 down a dirt road and stopped and said get out here. My dad took the next stand. About 20 min later dogs started barking and the shhoting started. I saw a deer coming my way thru the woods but it dissapeared in a low area. It popped up again running directlly at me. I could see spikes so I shot it between the eyes with buckshot. He fell at my feet. My dad came running down the road and said I was shaking and still pointing the gun at the buck. I really thought he was going to run over me. When we got back to camp Dad was field dressing him and another man said look at this. It looks like someone else hit it before you killed it. I fell for it and looked. He came out of that cavity with a double hand full of blood and splashed it all in my face. I remember that couple of the other kids got their shirt tails cut for missing that weekend too.
Those were exciting times to be a youngun in the woods.

i participated on dog deer drives as a kid in the 70’s & 80’s but all i ever did was freeze!! 🥶 🤣
deer hunting just wasn’t as big of a deal - the men in my family love dove & quail way more
it wasn’t until my brother really got into it & mentored me as an adult that i took my 1st deer

Wish I did. One of the only things I've ever had stolen from me. Also killed my first gobbler with it, first quail and dove.

Mine was a doe. Shot it out of a shooting house with one of my dad's AU professor friends using a Remington 742 30-06. I was shaking so bad, the scope was blurry, so I put it on the deer, closed my eyes and pulled the trigger. Nailed it!!

When we took it to the skinning shed for his club, one of the members, who knew me and my dad, initiated me. I had deer blood all over my face, neck, head, and it was even down in my ears. I ended up taking off my clothes from the waist up and rinsing off with a hose.

Then killed one the very next day at my dog hunting club with an 870.

Hardaway, Alabama in Macon County during Doe Days. Got a doe crossing an old road with my .44 lever action Marlin rifle topped with a Tasco scope.

Hate to hear that! The 22 i shot mine with was also stolen, my Daddy had an old remington 1100 with some similar history, he had it on gun rack in his pick up truck and someone knocked the window out and stole it.

My grandfather and I sat together in a wooden homemade ladder stand in some timber on his property in Maplesville al and killed my very first deer at halftime of the iron bowl a couple of days after I turned 12. I remember we brought it back to the barn and my mom and dad took our picture with a polaroid camera. No matter what they do to me, they cant ever take that memory away from me

Last year my little boy shot his very first deer on my Dad's farm in Dallas county.

Them is a couple of feelings and a couple of times in your life you never really can recreate.
