Well, we are all dried in with the house now and about ready for the pool guys to come. Still considering which company. Just a straight rectangle. Question is for those that have a pool, what’s your take on a tanning ledge. We were thinking about one but it adds a bit of cost and you have to make the pool longer to accommodate the loss of area in the shallow end which also adds some cost. We do have young grandkids and another one on the way and we’re thinking this would be a good area for them to hang out as well as the moms to sit with them. Just wondering if it’s worth the extra coin? Thanks.

Sun Shelf is a must, don't make it too shallow, ours is 12" to 18". That area gets more use then the rest of the pool.
Bite the bullet and get a heat pump that will allow you to cool the pool and heat it. It sounds silly but our pool was getting into the low 90s and it was awful, set the chiller to run the night before you know you will you it and it will drop from 92 to 85 quickly.

My grandkids love the tanning ledge/steps I put in mine. The water there is about 8” deep and there are 2 steps that allow you to get to the shallow part of the pool. I put bubblers on the ledge and the kids love them turned on high so it shoots water all over them. They love this end of the pool and I don’t worry as much about them wanting to get in the deep end anymore.
I paid more for my upgrade than I did the original cost of the pool. I love it as it is my bath/cool off area before I hit the house. I been in it 2 times already today!

We have a tanning ledge. You don’t have to lengthen the pool or lose space. Just have it built in a “L” shape and add the tanning ledge on the “L” part. That’s what we did. Ours is about 13” deep if memory serves me. The wife enjoys it and we figure one day when grandkids come along it’ll be a great place for them until they get bigger. Our pool is 20’x40’ and the tanning ledge is 10’x12’

If you have young children or drunk adults both love the tanning ledge.
It actually Is great for teaching children to swim, we have had many kids learn to swim in our pool because they had an area to use that wasn’t too deep for them to be in safely
I have a buddy I grew up with that has a pool company if you need a good builder

I tried to explain to the wife that we aren't just going to leave it on. She didn't grasp that concept. White girl math....

Ledge and rest of the pool 4ft. Enjoy standing having a cocktail and visiting. Put in a slide???? no diving board. Friends have a 4ft volleyball pool it’s great.

I would get it for sure,who’s gonna be putting in your pool?I see a guy on tik tok that’s puts them in around central Alabama and they’re called backyard vacation.com,he does some nice pools for pretty decent prices.He has a lot of videos on his tik tok page

Our pool is 20’x40’ and the tanning ledge is 10’x12’ We looked at option but our lot has a pretty steep grade beyond the pad itself and the L would be right up on the patio. I mean like flipping a burger off the grill and into the water close. It’s going to require us to bring in a bunch of dirt in addition to what they dig out to soften the grade and also have enough dirt to support the pool wall. The house sits on a hill with a gorgeous view out the back but the hill is a little issue for the pool design.

We enjoy our sun deck but the lounge chairs that are made to be easy on the liner can be pricey
I run the pumps from 8pm to 8am year round and don’t see much change in power bills because of this
It’s the 3 AC units running night and day that makes for costly power bills
When I need expert advice I tend to talk to myself
