Without an override clutch, the OP situation can happen really fast. Several years ago, my old Yanmar pushed me down through the woods toward a big creek with the bush hog providing the momentum to drive the rear axle. Before I ever bush hogged again, I had an override clutch on it.
We used to have an old Farmall with live PTO and the momentum of the mower could get you in trouble fast.
